Been taking allopurinol for about 10 days, only take one 100mg. tablet a day but have experienced a lot of heartburn. Is this usual?

Yes, heart burn is unusual and not a commonly reported side effect of Allopurinol. You should discuss with your doctor. Upper stomach pain could be a sign of a serious side effect.
