I just was diagnosed with diabetes today. I have never liked this drug for various reasons but my doc wouldn't take me off it. I read that it does increase your A1C , so I just want to stop taking this med, I also take losartan among many other meds. I'm 74 , taking too many meds . Has this happened to anyone else?
I've been taking 50 mg of metoprolol for almost 2 years. I have gained about 35 lbs.

Hope you see this, YES, I am 68 and had an ablation after which I was placed on this drug with the understanding it would be temporary and now my doctor says the side effects are better than the heart alternatives. I do not do well with ANY drugs and this drug has caused a list of side effects of which weight gain is one. I was NOT happy with that. I gained 14 lbs. and seem to be steadily at a slow pace gaining more. I have always been a healthy weight and am not used to these extra pounds.
Hi. I’m on 37.5 Metoprolol and 40 Olmesartan which is similar to Losartan both are ARBs. Maybe try taking one Med at night and one in am. I take Metoprolol in am and Olmesartan in pm. Maybe you’ll have less side effects. I also read Metoprolol raises your blood sugar. There are so many side effects from bp meds and all meds. If your bp is stable just hang in there. I would not want to now start on diabetic meds. Try and follow a low sugar diet or whatever the Diabetes Assoc recommends. Good luck!
