My dosage of metoprolol ER has been reduced from 50mg to 25mg. Is it OK to cut the pill in half?

What time intervals does the medical dosage of twice a day mean?

My father's metformin and metoprolol medications stipulate twice a day with meals. what is the minimum interval of the dosages? I am cocerned about the erratic manner he i given these medications, just with meals, regardless of hen the meals are taken.
