I had several side effects following my first dose of Prolia. I have COPD Emphysema so I believe my SOB increased for a while. Also, extreme fatigue lasted several months, joint pain and sciatica came on strong.
I am told stopping Prolia can be harmful to my overall bone health. Is it safe for me to stop since I have had only one dose?
Thank you in advance for your quick reply.
Stopping Prolia before taking second dose?

Recommend watching bone health presentations on YouTube by Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Eric Berg. There are many steps we can take to build strong bones without more drugs. Research is showing that some of these drugs actually weaken bones and increase fractures in five or more years. It's most important to get sufficient vitamins D3 and K2 and ensure that minerals are adequate and being digested properly.
You make excellent points. You are right about the build back of bone causing weaker bones with these medications. Also exercise can help.
Look at other questions about Prolia. You will find many people who have had side effects that are terrible. Mine lasted 9 years! Consider other options, but all the other meds have potential bad side effects as well and none of them build back bone the way your body did. My mother had fairly severe osteoporosis, but was careful and died at age 88 without breaking any bones. My gynecologist said that the estrogen patch was relatively safe and it stops further bone loss, so that's what I have done. I am 70 years old and have also found it to be like a youth medication with all the other benefits. Some studies have found estrogen has reduced the rate of breast cancer which surprised the researchers. The bad effects from estrogen were from a study long ago from a combination that should not be given. You are taking a big risk with continuing with Prolia, especially since you already had bad effects from it.
Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated.
You are most welcome. I wish you the best.
I am afraid,my second injection is due next week.
Ideas not told of the injection I was having only it's a hormone,no time to think ,.been in pain in my low back hips, Told it's arthritis, feel weak all the time,
I've also had very bad pain in my low back hips. Physical therapy stopped it! Just 2 exercises that I need to do daily. Prolia is not going to solve that problem. Think again about it. There are many, many people on here who have had terrible effects from it that can last for years. And some of them had the problems after 4 or 5 injections. Yes, you could be one of many who do not have severe problems. But there are other ways. You don't say if you are post menopausal. My doctor put me on estrogen/progesterone patches. "One-two years of transdermal estrogen delivery can effectively increase BMD (Bone mineral density) and protect the bone structure in postmenopausal women." Transdermal means patches. Both high bone turnover and low bone mineral density are risk factors for bone fractures. From https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5423263.
And "Even if combined estrogen+progestogen hormone replacement did cause an increase in breast cancer risk, and this is not proven, the magnitude of that risk is small, and less than that risk seen with many lifestyle factors. HRT is a benefit, not a risk, for those women requiring it." From: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21864135/
Good luck to you whatever you choose to do. Let me know if you have any questions--or comments about what I've written.
