Is it OK to stop taking prednisone if I just had one 60 mg dose?

I was in the ER last night because I accidentally ingested peanut butter. (I'm highly allergic)
My symptoms weren't too severe, and my oxygen levels were normal. They did not see a need to use an Epi pen, but they did give me 60 mg of prednisone along with Pepcid and Benadryl.
After being discharged, the nurse said to take the prednisone 40 mg for a few days but if you feel better you don't have to take it. The thing is, I don't want to take it anymore because I feel better, but I heard you should always taper off prednisone even if it's a one time thing?
It was 60mg, one dose. So I'm not sure what to do. I'd rather not take any more of it but I don't want to suffer an consequences for not tapering. Let me know. Thank you.

Funnybob; Normally I would say taper it like they almost always do. But if your nurse said it was okay to stop it after the first dose then you should be fine. But keep them close in case you have any problems you could take the 40 mg to avoid any side effects. Hope that makes sense to you if not call the E.R. AND SEE WHAT YOUR CHART SAYS. BECAUSE normally you do drop to like 40mg for a day or 2 then 20 mg for a day or two then 10 mg for a day or two, then 5 mg until gone if they gave you that much which you split the pills with a razor blade or knife if they are all 40 mg tablets but most important please if your feeling fine. follow the nurse's order. good luck Chuck or check with a doctor.

Also Funnybob; this short term of prednisone is safe it is people that are on it for years that have other medical problems. So feel free to do what the doctor really wanted you to do. Don't take any chances. hope you feel better very soon.
