Started buspirone 10 mg twice a day. Felt pretty good maybe a bit less irritable and calmer. However starting a few days ago I became hungry ALL the time.. I'd like to keep going but don't want weight gain which is inevitable with this non-stop hunger. Anyone have this side effect and did it go away??
Started buspirone 3 weeks ago and non-stop hunger?

I've been on it for at least 2 years (getting weened off) and your question has brought up something I never thought of. 2-3 years ago I was able to lose weight. Since then, it's been almost impossible - can't control the hunger like I used to. Your question has made me realize that perhaps it's no coincidence that this problem started after I started taking Buspirone for anxiety. Maybe, maybe not. I do know, though, that Buspirone only gave me severe pain in my neck and left should, then spread. On a bizarre bright side, it increased my sex drive. Despite that, I'm getting off of it due to the unbearable pain, and I'll see if I can lose weight!
Hi, Lparg!
Increased hunger is not shown as a metabolic side effect but every person responds differently to medications so anything is possible. Side effects like this generally resolve within 2-3 weeks so you should let your doctor know. Meanwhile, watch what you're eating... especially avoiding sugars and carbs which could result in weight gain.
Also, it can take 4-6 weeks for this medication to become fully effective so try to be patient for a while longer.
I started on buspirone 5 mg three times a day several months ago, and I have not noticed any significant change in my appetite. I have not looked it up so I'm not sure if it is a potential side effect or not. If you find buspirone to be effective and do not want to stop or switch to something else, I would suggest counting calories and choosing lower calorie foods so you can satisfy those hunger cravings without putting on additional weight.
