til I notice the full effects of it? I am taking it for mild Bipolar Disorder/depression along with 150mgs of Wellbutrin a day. Tonight (when I'm done sending this question) I start 150mgs a nite for 3 nites, then 150mgs morning & 150mgs at nite.
Once I start taking 300mgs a day of Trileptal, about how long should it be til I notice the full ef?

Hi Lady.
This is info I researched. Short and sweet. I like that. Don't you?
How long does it take for Oxcarbazepine to work?
It is very important to tell your doctor how you feel during the first few weeks after you start taking oxcarbazepine (trileptal.) It will probably take several weeks to see big enough changes in your symptoms to decide if oxcarbazepine is the right medication for you.
How long does it take for Wellbutrin® to work?
While depressed mood and lack of interest in activities may need up to 4-6 weeks to improve, disturbances in sleep, energy, or appetite may show some improvement within the first 1-2 weeks. Improvement in these physical symptoms can be an important early signal that the medication is working.
Ya know, Lady, a lot of medications say it will take weeks to feel any changes. Do you think that's true? It hasn't been my experience and I'm 63. I always feel a new med in a day or so. I'm self aware of the changes. We're all different. Let me know how it works, plz. I wish I could help more. I was unable to find any more info. In some other chat boards people said it wasn't a good combination. I don't know. Have you spoke with your doc about how long it will take?
God bless you,
Anna
Hello Pickles503, I started feeling a lot better w/in 20hrs or so. I'm more active now. Not so lazy!!! I also noticed (since about 20yrs ago) that a lot of meds do say it'll take weeks 2 feel changes. Since about 2006 most of the meds I've been tried on took less than several days for me 2 feel effects. I might stay on 150mg a day & I MIGHT start taking 150mg 2 x a day. I'm thinking I might only need 150mg a day!!! I hope my answers bak 2 u are helpful!!!
God bless you too.
He Is GOOD ALL THE TIME!!!

I recently started trilyptal and its been about 2-3 days. I feel dizzy, I can't function right, and can't walk right. Do you know how long this will. Does anyone feel this way?
My personal experience with these drugs, like Wellbutrin and Lexapro, that supposedly take 4-8 weeks to kick in, is that they kicked in within 5 days or so. What i personally experienced is that what the drugs actually do is kick in, build up, then back off their intensity over the weeks.
So, i asked my pdoc about that. He is a very down to earth guy who doesn’t beat around the bush, and he said that’s exactly why they wait 4-6 weeks to check in on a drugs effectiveness. I in no way mean to negate anything anyone else says for sure, with me at least, i get an initial response which tends to actually mellow out.
What I’ve also noticed is that with the anti-anxiety/anti-depression/and now mood stabilizers, is that they will come on hard as if i was at a higher dose, then they mellow out going into week 4. The reason i say that is because i will start getting the negative effects of the drug, like causing the very problem they are supposed to be helping, but then it goes away, then when moving to a higher dose those problems stay over the long term.
I’m sure some people they do gradually build over the 4-6 weeks, but my pdoc told me my experience was very common, and that the reason they wait is to see how a patient responds, because different people react differently until you get to the 4-6 week mark. By then you/they will know what a drugs long term effect is.
All that being said, i just started taking Trileptal tonight to help identify if i have mild bi-polar that was originally diagnosed as anxiety associated with ptsd. It had an almost immediate sedative effect that my doc said should go away within a week or so, and had me continue the Lexapro and/or lower my dose. This is the first non-ssri I’ve taken, so we’ll see how it goes. I started with welbuterin, which made me suicidal, then went on Lexapro which started working at 5 mg great, then 10 even better, but then 15 made me more anxious and feel buzzy, which is why he thinks i may actually be bi-polar.
It’s great to have these forums to communicate with people that have similar issues. Nothing feels worse than nobody around understanding what you go through.
The Trileptal should take a week of two before you feel the full effect. I did not have luck with Trileptal. It did not help with the mood swings. But, it is one of the medications that has less side effects. I hope it all works out for you. Good luck!
Hello GuinnessGirl54, Thank U for ur answer. I actually started feeling alot better w/in 24 hrs!!! Thanx very much for wishing me a good experience w/it! ! God Bless!!!
