No banannas, no nutritional drinks like ensure. If your on spironolactone and you need to begin blood thinners like Coumadin or warfarin make sure to let your doc know explicitly you are on spironolactone. Always check contents of vitamin K in your foods. Also avoid kale.
By the way the vitamin k, kale etc are just precaution IF. You ever get on Coumadin or warfarin. For just spironolactone avoid banannas and things high in potassium. Google is your friend for finding potassium contents in food. Sorry about the sidetrack there on warfarin or Coumadin. I was on autopilot for a SOAP note.
The only food I was told to avoid was bananas. My cardiac rehab dietitian said that they can cause a number of problems. Bananas were taken off my diet when I was in the hospital.
Bananas are chock full of Potassium, good call.
You should not have to avoid foods containing Potassium when taking Spironolactone even though it is Potassium sparing. A normal balanced diet is fine.
