I have used spironolact for about a month and half and my nipples started to hurt. I have been taking it for cirrosis of the liver.
Spironolactone - after discontinuing spironolact, will the breast swelling go down?

They told me that crap about Spironolactone. I complained about the tenderness then the damn things grew like lightning (3 months). Breasts on a man are not attractive (not on me anyway) and it is not "swelling" it is actual breast tissue that requires a mastectomy for removal (it's biggest market is for breast growth in certain populations).
Look at your blood work. If potassium is not low; throw the spironolactone into the cupboard for now. Just stick to the Furosemide.
My doctor is out of the office for a week... When calling, i asked if there was something else they could give me and I was told I will have to wait for the doctor to return, and was told to keep taking it until then... I told them I would not take that crap anymore. Are there any other drugs out there that will remove water, but retain the potassium? I heard about Triamterene??? Anyone know anything about it... Heard it do this kind of damage to men.
The problem is that Spironolactone, is basically an Estrogen analog and Estrogen receptor agonist that is also used a potassium sparing diuretic. I checked out my blood labs and found that my potassium levels were the same before, during and after taking it; (I get bloods done 4 weekly). I didn't even wait for a doctor (it was a hopeless diuretic too) I just chucked the spironolactone in the back of the cupboard. I take furosemide as it is amazingly effective at getting rid of excess fluid. I have a no added salt diet or 2000mg depending on the meal (salty food now does not taste good) and try to restrict myself to 2 liters of water daily. That's my experience anyway.
I have heard of another medication but was not able to get an authority for it (must be expensive).
