Did anyone else experience epigastric pain when starting Celexa?
I tried this med a couple years ago but the nausea was too much and I stopped taking it.
This time I started with just a quarter of the dose and I’m only 5 days in and and am experiencing epigastric pain and a general feeling of being unwell.
Is this common?
Side effects of Celexa (citalopram)?

When I started this med I literally started at 2.5 mgs for a week then did those tiny increments until reaching 20 mgs so maybe you could try to back down for a few days. I use to get this lump in my throat like something was stuck and I finally asked the pharmacist and he said it’s from the stomach like reflux, it took weeks to go away but finally did. Not sure if any of this helps but for sure I’d try to back down a quarter or so and see if that helps then go up again slow. I really like celexa and it was worth my ups and downs.
Glad to hear it, Jackbarks, and thanks for writing in about your experiences. It's important for people to know that they might need to do a little trial and error on dosage and deal with some potential side effects.
It's also important that they know that given time and effort these drugs including Celexa can be life changers.
Thank you for responding Jackbarks007! It was a struggle to break the tabs into quarters (20mg tabs - only scored to be broken in half, but I managed to break the halves into quarters, to give myself 5mg pieces. I like your idea of going up incrementally. I was going to go up to half a tab after a week but I think I'll stay at a quarter for another week rather than exacerbating the symptoms.
thanks again
You can get a pill cutter so much easier lol dollar tree and I think pharmacy might give them out. Good luck!
