I am on day 32 of taking sertraline. Before taking it I was struggling with severe anxiety and panic attacks. Sertraline started helping me on around day 15 and today I am feeling 95% myself again. It is not a happy pill, I feel normal not hyped! I am not numbed either, I still feel my emotions but they don’t overwhelm me.
I was on lexapro for 11 years, successfully withdrew and spent three years med free. The first two years were good but the third year my anxiety returned. I tried for twelve months to heal myself with ‘natural’ methods such as vitamins, meditation, self help books, therapy but it continued to get worse. Living like that is not fun.
If you have more good days than bad then you probably don’t need antidepressants. You would know if you needed help…. Believe me!
Hi, Ask!
I can only speak personally but I know that I do have to rely on medication to address my mental health situation. I have much more than just bad days without it. For me, I will never be able to live a happy, productive life unless I take my meds... and that's been my story for more years than you've probably been alive.
Why is it worse when you take an antidepressant and how long is it before they stop working for you? How many have you tried and did you give them a fair trial?
It's not easy finding the right medication or combination of them but most people do have to keep trying several before the right one(s) come along.
I would guess that since you asked a question on this forum that you're at best having one of those bad days and you're reaching out for help. The advice I have to give you is to work closely with a doctor you trust and keep a positive attitude that there's a better way of living.
Best regards,
Wildcat
PS, Yes, sertraline has helped me and tens of thousands of people like me!
