The short answer to your question is yes, however I am certain that you have an american doctor due to their poor judgment in prescribing because Valium is designed for anxiety disorders not for alcohol detox. The appropriate drug that is designed for alcohol detox is Librium. That is what your doctor should have prescribed.
I have 2 mg of Valium that I can take up to three times a day. I always split mine because I try to take as small a dose as possible. I am not sure if your dosage needs to spaced apart in a certain way for alcohol detox so you might want to check with your doctor.
I wish you well with your alcohol detox.
