I've been drinkin a bottle of KD every night. Not sure I its to relax. But I know my legs shake at the end of every day. So I guess I'm an alcoholic. But I've heard withdraws is life threatening. I wanna stop but I'm scared. It don't effect my work or anything. But I want a family. An I'm gonna have to stop to get that. But I know that I don't want to see them go thru my life situation.
Hi i am not sure what KD is? If you could let me know that would be great... How long have you been drinking and roughly how many units is in a bottle of KD? Also what time of the day do you start drinking?
Before I give you my answer, I do want to ask you how much alcohol have you been drinking every night? Are you drinking 1 beer a night? Are you drinking 1 or 2 normal glasses of wine a night? Are you drinking 1 or 2 normal cocktails a night? The reason that I am asking this is because, some people can drink on a daily basis and stop cold turkey and have no problems, and some will have withdrawal. If you are having a beer or a glass of wine or a cocktail at night to relax after work or whatever, then you more than likely will have very little to no withdrawal if you stop cold turkey. but if you are drinking to the point to where you pass out or get drunk , then you will have some degree of withdrawal, it just depends on how your body handles alcohol. The only thing that I can tell you is if and when you decide to stop, if you start to feel sick in anyway, then you need to get medical help because alcohol withdrawal can be deadly.
Also, even if you don't have bad withdrawal, AA is A good thing to check into if you don't want to go back to drinking! I am a recovering heroin addict, and I go to NA meetings and I tell you , they are a God send!! They keep me from going back to my old ways!! Just listen to what your body tells you!! I wish you luck!! :)
Hi miamia2013 and welcome to DC. I want to add here that I used to drink as well but never did I think I was an alcoholic. Drinking every day doesn't make you an alcoholic either. What makes you an alcoholic, in part, is drinking to excess... drinking to forget... drinking to pass out... can't wait to have a drink... forgetting to eat over drinking... can't remember things after you drink...
I just stopped drinking and nothing happened to me. I did get a chance to look at why I was drinking. Hmmmm, I only drank around my family. That should say something. I know lots of people who drink daily with dinner who are not alcoholics.
You didn't mention how much you drink. Without knowing a bit more here, one could also suggest that you can just stop drinking because you are tired of it and how it makes you feel.
By the way, my B-I-L who is 61, stopped drinking at Christmas time last year because he was tired of it and hasn't had a drink since then. He didn't go through withdrawals or anything like that and had been drinking for quite some time. I didn't go through that either. You can stop and see how you feel, too.
The best to you and I wish you well through this journey.
Mary
Dearest miamia2013 I have to agree with our other friends I hope you dont try to do this on your own. You really need to seek some medical help. They have drugs to help you get threw those DTs. Withdrawal from alcohol is a pretty serious thing and my friend can be life threatening. God be with you.
Also, join AA, or another support group, you need the encouragement for a successful sobriety.
Hello miamia2013. I suggest you get a medical opinion/support. The DT-S or withdrawals will likely be severe and possibly serious. Regards pledge
Not safe and you may wish to seek the help of a detox center where you can be provided the necessary guidance and medications for a successful transition into sobriety.
