According to Hello Pharmacist Fluoxetine is an immediate-release selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It is safe to open the capsules and sprinkle over a spoonful of food or in a small amount of liquid.
In general, unless a medication is extended-release or delayed-release, it’s usually safe to open the capsule and take it with a spoonful of food. There are exceptions, so always check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Fluoxetine is also available in a liquid formulation, which may be a good option if you don't want the hassle of opening capsules.
Although uncommonly used, Prozac comes in a once-weekly capsule (Prozac Weekly). This should not be opened.
