My doctor recommends 1.5mg for my husband because he takes another medication that can cause drowsiness. For me, she recommends 3mg. You can purchase melatonin over the counter in strengths I've seen ranging from 3mg to 10mg. You will want to start off with the lowest dose possible and gradually work your way up if it is not effective.
