this is going to sound crazy I know that but I too experienced horrible pain-I have myalgia so the extra pain was HORRIBLE - a few of my friends who experienced it told me to go to Chick fil a as soon as I had the shot and get a milk shake - they are the only place that uses real milk and cream - so I did - and usually by this time (4:30 PM) the next day I couldn't move - well I went and voted, shopped and even raked about 10 ft of dead grass - I FEEL NO AFTER AFFECTS! Don't understand it can't find an answer - but my doctor told me if it works let me know - that I will!!! Joy
I tried bc powder, but no help, then just yesterday a friend told me to try omega xl and it did help somewhat. He gave me a few and said it helped him after taking a second pill 8 hours later.
I got my first Prolia injection about 10 weeks ago and 5 weeks ago both my arms hurt from the wrist to the shoulder. I could hardly use them. After a week just my left arm from my elbow to my wrist hurt severely and my upper left arm mildly. I can’t even use a sponge to clean a spoon because using my fingers cause a lot of pain. It’s worse during the night when my arm is not in motion so it gets stiff. I’m left handed. I had hysterectomy in my 20’s and can not take hormones due to breast problems. I do not absorb oral pills so that is one reason I was given Prolia. I’m only 51 and on a walker due to spine fractures because of severe osteoporosis. I don’t know what else to do! I do know I can not take this pain or want the other problems I just read about
I have found nothing to that permanently takes the pain away, sorry to say. I just started taking Hemp Oil pills. It was suggested in one of the reviews for Prolia. I have not been on it but 4 days, so far, it is not helping! I will update you if it does help. As I have stated in my posts, Prolia was a horrible drug for me. Have not had one since 2015, but still hurting. Sorry, not helpful!!
You poor thing. I decided totally against Prolia, too many cons and hardly any pros. I changed some of my dietary problems and also do weight bearing exercises, my osteoporosis is stable just by changing a few simple everyday things. I only weigh 51 kg. but that has not changed for years. Exercise and proper foods are the key to being healthy, I am well in my 70's and intend to stay healthy and fit WITHOUT having to go on Prolia. It is your choice what you decide to do, you do not have to take the advice of health professionals, read up and research before you start or continue with the Prolia. Good luck
Good for you! I think that doctors feel compelled to push medications to feel like they are doing something, but the treatment can be worse than the malady.
I'm so glad that I went to this website to get important information from real people not the drug pushers. When I go to the Endocrinologist in Feb. I will listen to what she says then tell her what I want. If she doesn't recommend the Estrogen patches then I will go to a Gynecologist. I go to the gym everyday. I had two back surgeries that failed on my L3-5 in 2014 and 2015. My nerves were cut and that causes leg cramps at night. I was given Gabapentin but that did not stop the cramps. The nurse said if I would exercise it would help. Well, it stops the cramps. I can skip one day but I have to go back the next. It seems I got my arthritis from heredity and my whole body is in pain all the time. I take Oxycodone 3 times a day to ease my pain but it doesn't take it away. Good luck to all with the Osteoporosis problems.
To Wanda, So sorry to hear about your pain. You are fortunate that your doctor is willing to prescribe Oxycodone. So many doctors have been scared off of it because of the high number of opioid deaths in this country. Unless there is some other pain medication that could help you. Thank you for sharing your opinions on this site. So often I never hear a word from people after I have offered my information. My endocrinologist continued to press for some medication for my osteoporosis, but I said never again. And the bones are not built back the way your body does. They are more brittle.
Acupuncture has changed my life from being in so much pain. A friend with arthritis said that the pain reduction was so significant that she wondered if it was too good to be true. I told her that no, I had been getting help for the past 2 years with it. And the needles are so tiny that you will not notice them. Just occasionally, then he immediately eases the sensation. Thank you again and I hope that you will feel better.
If you look at other Prolia questions, you will see that people have had many different pain syndromes. You should talk to your doctor about what to do about the pain. Hopefully your pain will get better with time. With me, after the shot I had severe pain, but then a couple months later it got better, but it has been skin inflammation and bruising from the slightest pressure for the past 5 and a half years. That was after just one injection. I cannot wear a CPAP mask for my severe sleep apnea because I get severe bruising and like my skin has gotten scoured. It hurts even to sit on soft surfaces. If I touch my face gently, it is irritating. I can no longer my cats because it is like my hands have been in fiberglass. Can no longer wear wool. But some of the other accounts are FAR WORSE than mine. But this was the very worst decision that I made to get this shot. Some people get the bad reaction after several injections.
I would like to know how you do. Wishing you the best outcome.
That's just horrible. I was recently diagnosed with Osteo and researched the pill and the shot. I'd rather take a shot but now I don't think I will. There were a lot of cons for Fosamax and that turned me off too. I don't go to my specialist until Feb. 12. I hope to decide by then. I hope you feel better.
I think that the problems with Fosamax and pills like those are far worse, so you were right about that. The one thing that my doctor told me to keep my bones from deteriorating further is to take estrogen. The hazards from taking it are far overblown, especially with the patches that do not go through the liver. The studies showing the problems with the heart were a combination of 2 hormones that are not given any more. I am 65 and my gynecologist doctor has no problem giving it to me. Unless you have a breast cancer problem or a stroke caused by a blood clot. My stroke was caused by dissection, not a blood clot with no risk factors whatsoever, so all of my neurologists have no problem with me using the estrogen patches. Read other questions about Prolia and you find people with far worse problems than I have had. My mother had bad osteoporosis and never broke a bone. She was careful and lived to 88 years. I wish you the best with your decision.
