I was wondering if taking Zoloft at night for anxiety disorder, is it possible that buspirone could be taking during the day to help my nervousness and tension, especially riding as a passenger on a trip?

Hi, rodnee!
I've been taking buspirone along with my antidepressant for years now with great success. There is some question though as to whether or not it can be taken on an as needed basis. Some people have said they use it that way but my psychiatrist feels it's only effective when taken regularly (daily) and I have to agree with her.
It doesn't seem to be effective for all people... it's sort of 50/50... but it's certainly worth a try in my opinion.
Best regards,

PS, There is a very slight risk of an interaction called serotonin syndrome which is rare and treatable in the early stages. But it's something you should be aware of and discuss with your doctor.

I have never taken Zoloft, but I have taken other antidepressants including SSRIs, an SNRI and tricyclics. Most recently, I was on amitriptyline for my depression and diazepam for my social anxiety disorder. Because I was still having problems with antidepressants regarding side effects, and I have developed somewhat of a tolerance for diazepam, my doctor did prescribe buspirone alongside those other drugs. Therefore, I do not think it is unheard of and I would certainly ask your mental health doctor about it. Just as an aside, I am no longer on any antidepressants because I cannot tolerate the side effect of night terrors that I get from every type that I have tried. However, for my anxiety I do still take buspirone twice a day and diazepam as needed. Good luck to you.
