I am contemplating going back on fluoxetine after being off of it for a little over a year. When I went off Fluox (40mg) I started taking Lexapro (escitalopram 20mg). Just wondering about side effects and effectiveness when starting back up. I experienced some side effects for the first couple of weeks when I began the fluoxetine. I was on Fluox for about 5 years before I switched... I made the switch because it seemed to lose its effect for me. I stopped taking the Lexapro because I didn't like it. I had too many side effects. I have been off medicines for almost 4 months but I am beginning to feel my depression setting back in...
Prozac - What is it like going back on fluoxetine after being off for a year?

It can be good to have a break from a medication. I started back on Prozac after a few years off of it, and it is working great for me again. I am one of the lucky ones who gets no side effects from it.
It should be the same as the first time you used it. But if it wasn't working sometimes the doctor will up the dose first before taking you off. Did your doctor take you off or did you do it for yourself? It's not recommended to go off of any medicines without the doctor's consent. If it stopped working it might not work now. Sometimes staying off of a medicine for awhile and then going back works, but it varies. Usually when a medicine stops working is after many years of taking it. My answers are personal not professional. Good Luck to you and or a God Bless
I went off of my medication under a doctor's guidance. I'm just really hoping that it will work, I don't like going through the trial process with medications. Thank you for your response.
