I have a friend who is a vet and he was prescribed Aripiprazole 10mg tablet. The directions for him were to break in half the 10 mg talblet and take it for 14 days then if all is well. Then take a full 10mg tablet once a day. But, when he read the precautions section that comes with the medicine. It states manufacturers dont recommend to split in half or crush the tablet . So he is confused. Why then is he being told to split in half the first 14 days? Can you answer this question?
Thanks
Is it proper for a person to break in half a Aripiprazole 10mg tablet to take?

You are correct they should not be cut. They are coated and cutting them would alter absorption. Plus they are not scored so the chances of getting equal amounts are slim. It would have made more sense to me if he'd ordered 5 mg tabs and said to take 2 tabs after two weeks. I'd call the dr and question it telling him what the paper says.
