The expiration date is usally the point at which a drug will begin to lose its potency, but the manufacturer will always have a buffer time frame. Just don't know what that is, but to answer your question, yes it should be ok, but I would get the prescription renewed, that way you know that the pill is full potency.
I have taken expired Promethazine many times in the past, and it has always work. I recently took one that had expired in January 2014. I had not taken any in quite a while. It knocked out the nausea, plus made me very drowsy which is what it usually does. I have never taken Promethazine (Phenergan) that was more than three years old. Hope this answer helps. Good luck!
You can try it, it could work.
