My last period was December 4th or the second, I had unprotected sex on 18th, he did not cum inside me but depending on the guy, pre-cum can get you pregnant too, I started freaking out, So I took Plan B the next day. Now it's January 7th and I still haven't gotten my period. I don't Usually keep track of my cycle so I'm not sure it is consistent. I'm starting to breakout, and having these weird feelings in my stomach, not sure if is because I'm going to start my period or because I'm pregnant. Me and my boyfriend are freaking out worrying that I could be pregnant. Is this a common side effect of Plan B, or should I be seriously worried?
Took Plan B. My period is about a week late. Should I be worried?

I took Plan B on September 11 same day me and my boyfriend had sex but the condom broke so I took Plan B like a hour later and my period was supposed to start on the 14th it is now the 15th I know it’s supposed to delay my period up to a week but thought I should ask if this is normal? I also have been getting awful cramps here and there and I’m just worried that i might get pregnant or not I know it’s supposed to delay it but just wanted to ask if all of this is normal and if I should be seeing my period soon?
You answered this person's 2014 question on the 17th, not the 15th.
I replied a few days ago, to your own question, on the thread that you created -
If your periods are regular each month, you are not fertile during the week leading to your period. You would not need emergency contraception in that situation. That's if they're regular.
Plan B is a huge dose of artificial hormone for your body to deal with. It could certainly be delaying your period & causing the other side effects you're getting.
It's just a case of waiting for your body to deal with the Drug, & get back to normal. That time frame is different for everyone. It could be days, weeks or months. Things may be irregular during that time.
I have recently (I think) going through the same thing. Last month I took Plan B, I was supposed to have my period 5 days ago and have been freaking out. The past two days or so I’ve been getting cramps and felt moody but nothing has happened yet. No period. Also five days ago our condom broke. Nothing was in it that we could tell, and I am not sure if I should go for Plan B again or if its too soon? I know it shouldn’t be taken too frequently. I haven't been taking birth control yet so I set up an appointment with my doctor tomorrow. I have been worried about my late period and also what to do?
This should really have been a new question.
You only have 3 days/72 hours in which Plan B/Levonorgestrel may help. It's Ella that can be effective up to 5 days/120 hours later.
You can use Ella if you're within that time. It's not advisable to use emergency hormonal contraception so regularly, as it's likely to cause potentially significant hormonal side effects & irregular bleeding for some time (everyone's different), but if you need emergency contraception then you have to weigh up if it's worth going through that.
The other option is to have an IUD fitted by a doctor. You only have 5 days/120 hours to do that from the time of sex, too.
I don't normally write in these but I felt like I should to ease my mind. I was stupid and had unprotected sex while not on any birth control :( but the worst part is I am sure I was ovulating because I track my periods. Anyways I didn't realize this till 4 days later when I saw spotting. That day I immediately went to the store and bought a Plan B just in case it wasn't too late. I know all I can do is wait now.
So firstly to anyone reading please make sure to practice safe sex and get on some form of BC because no one needs this added stress in their life. And secondly, I wanted to ask what are the next steps I should take if my period doesn't come? I know to take a pregnancy test if its a week late but I mean after that step.
The Plan B you took was too late. You only have 3 days/72 hours in which it may help. It's Ella that can be effective up to 5 days/120 hours later.
Even if that wasn't the case, Plan B works by delaying your ovulation until the sperm leaves your body. If you're already ovulating then it can't do that. Some think Plan B works in other ways, but the Manufacturer does not claim that. They say it's possible, but don't say it does, as it has not been proven. You can see their use of the word Possible, on their website.
In the situation where you're close to ovulation, you're better off with the other emergency pill called Ella (Ulipristal Acetate).
It's common for your periods to be late or irregular for weeks or months after emergency hormonal contraception. Everyone is different. All you can do is do pregnancy tests. I'd recommend doing them even if you get some bleeding.
This should have been a new question btw x
I want to write this to share my experience. I had protected sex 12 days before my period was supposed to start, and the condom broke. I am on birth control (the pill) but I know no birth control is 100% effective due to user error (I know I don’t always take mine at the same time everyday). So I took plan b, just incase, about 12 hours after we had sex. Since it was 12 days before my period was supposed to begin I would have ovulated already but since I am on birth control I am not supposed to ovulate. Even though there should not be a reason for me to pregnant I still worried because, like I said, nothing works 100% of the time. I had read on countless websites that plan b can cause your period to be late and in fact I was 4 days late for my period. Speaking from experience, do not let all of the online research you do get in your head. I was so in my head I was convinced that the tiniest things were symptoms of pregnancy.
The bottom line is, your period will come! Mine came 4 days late and came in the middle of the day. But it most likely will come, don’t worry ladies.
The bottom line is we see women, here, who have become pregnant despite using Plan B. Your situation was one where you had 2 methods of potential protection, rather than just relying on Plan B. It is not as simple as telling women that their periods will definitely come. It just doesn't always work out that way.
I JUST GOT MY PERIOD honestly the most scariest and confusing month and 2 weeks of my life! Ladies, I took 2 PLAN B’s in a month... I regret it so much. But if you are in my situation hopefully this brings a little bit of a relief. Try to relax and stay positive! I literally spotted for almost a whole month guys it was crazy and today, it started off light and then BOOM there was my period! I’m so relieved and again, YOU WILL BE OK STAY POSITIVE! And if you’re scared and need someone to talk to, look up pregnancy hotline and a few numbers should pop up! I spoke to this really sweet lady that listened to me and my feelings the whole time and she didn’t judge me... Good luck ❤️.
I took plan B twice in a month too!!! i did not spotted but had a little discharge for two days, I'm now a week late on my period, should i be worried?i sounds just like your situation!
I had the same issue, I took emergency contraception 2 weeks and 2 days ago and only just began my period today. I was starting to freak out thinking I was pregnant. I have taken the emergency contraception before and It has always made my period come early, but not this time that's why I was starting to worry. I had a miscarriage in September I was about 8 weeks pregnant but I didn't know I was preg. My boyfriend and I didn't plan it.. I had my first proper period after the MC at the beginning of November so I'm just wondering if my cycle was still just trying to adjust back to normal and taking the emergency pill messed it up a bit.
I am in the same situation i had a mirena for 5 years then months later i had sex 5 days after my period but tge condom stayed inside so i took the pill like 15 hours later, well i stared to feel cramps and my breast very sensitive and i thought my period was coming but i have been like this for one week now and haven't had my period and I'm freaking out thinking im pregnant
I had this last week, sore breasts, nausea and severe tiredness. But today I have stared my period.. Hang on in there. Its coming..
Hi Ladies, i know this post is old, but i just wanted to add my experience. (i wrote my symptoms down last time because nothing online was what i was going though).
Last year i took plan B. 7 days later i was nauseous. 10 days later i had brown discharge that lasted two weeks exactly!! and 44 days after taking the pill i got my period.(58 days late) it was a short 2 day period. the next period after that was 29 days later and it was a normal 5 day period.
had to look this information up again because i just took plan b 10 days ago but havent felt any nausea and no discharge yet. but i am moody and feel like i wanna cry all the time and EVERYTHING is annoying and a BIG DEAL hahaha, i also am having night sweats. i dont remember these symptoms last time, but i did write down last time that i was a grump for a solid month.
so i guess what im saying is, we all react differently and just because one person gets their period on time, doesnt mean you will. and our 2nd experience may not be the same as the first.
You may want to try the other emergency pill, Ella (UIipristal Acetate), instead of Plan B, if you have a future emergency. I have a terrible time with emotions when I've used Plan B, but have had a much better experience with Ella. Obviously it's better not to use emergency contraception at all, as it's a huge dose of artificial hormone for your body to deal with. I don't even use regular hormonal contraception, anymore, due to the artificial hormones in it. If you have an emergency, though, you might want to try that.
Do not freak out! i was in the exact same position and i got my period 20 days late after taking plan b, it’s like i skipped a whole period.
Everyone going through this should relax I was late for 5 days and thought I was pregnant my period came on the 6th day. Stop worrying! Your period is gonna come.
I took plan b the next day after the condom broke during sex with my boyfriend. He came inside. I got the pill 17 hours later. I was freaking out that my period was not coming and I was 5 days late. It finally came on the 6th day. Relax ladies reading this. The pill works well. I wanted to share this because I know I was freaking out on the Internet too. Muah try to sleep (:
Ps. I'm 22 and I'm extremely fertile
I took plan b this year and my period was exactly 80 days late. It should come don't worry. I was going crazy trying to find answers as to why I was so abnormal ally late.
... 80 how did you not die from anxiety?
I'm not one day late and about to cry
I'm 17 and I took plan b after my boyfriend completely got off in me. I'm writing this because I'm sure you're like me and read these articles until you made yourself absolutely sick because I did the same thing. I had every symptom of pregnancy, nausea, headaches, peeing every 10 minutes, I had every symptom possible, and I stayed worried sick that I was pregnant. Plan B does work! Just relax and your period will come, mine was almost 2 weeks late and they can be up to 25 days like my friends did when she took plan b. Just chill out and it will be fine! And get off the internet, it makes you believe you're pregnant when in reality it's all in your mind
please i have the same symptoms now and want to know if levonorgestrel pill is as the same as plan b i am two days late at my period and i am worried sick!!!
From my experience, I got my period a week later than my expected period. Thank you God. I also read other forums and same happened to them. Plan B can cause your period to be late... It is normal. I did 3 pregnancy tests and it came out negative. I am gonna do one again tomorrow to make sure.
I had sex on July 8th. I took plan B 3 hours later... I started having a somewhat normal period 1 week later... I had unprotected sex again on July 17th (I know... -_- stupid mistake)... I have been praying for my period to come. My expected period was suppose to be on August 1st but IT DIDNT COME!! I was dying on the inside... Finally... My period came on August 13th... so happy... so please be patient and wait.. it will come... also, please do not have unprotected sex... not good. Learned my lesson.
You can probably expect your period about the end of January since you took Plan b around the 19th of Dec. It is too early for pregnancy symptoms. Anything you are feeling is most likely side effects from the Plan b-they are very similar to what people look for in early pregnancy plus when women are worried they are pregnant, they hyper focus on every little twinge that they would not normally even take note of but since they are searching for signs they become very hyper vigilant about every little thing. If there is no period by February then you need to do a pregnancy test. Dont bother doing one earlier because it may not be accurate.
