I took it for over 20 years but it eventually stopped working for me. It was had to get off of it. But when it worked it was very good except for the weight gain.
I have taken this drug for many many years. It does help with anxiety and depression. I would encourage you to read up about the drug as it is horrendous to come off.
My psychiatrist has told me it is rarely prescribed now due to withdrawal symptoms. There are many other drugs that could be of help and I would urge you to investigate this drug.
If you decide it is the best drug for you I hope you find it helpful and improves your quality of life.
Please get in touch if you want to ask me any other questions.
Hi, Antoine!
Paroxetine is an excellent choice:
"It is FDA approved for major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), panic disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause.Jul 23, 2021"
Increased anxiety is a side effect that affects about 1-10% of people using it especially when first starting the medication. It usually resolves within just days to a week or so. If it feels severe to you let your doctor know... sometimes a mild sedative can be prescribed to get you through this initial period.
Best regards and feel better soon.
PS, I took Paxil (paroxetine) for over 5 years and it was a game changer for me. It was very effective... more so than any other antidepressant/anxiolytic I'd taken before.
Hi, I am now on day 8 of Paroxetine. I was just wondering why did you stop taking Paroxetine after 5 years? Did you just taper off the medication because you felt like you could or did it stop working at a certain moment in time?:)
