Thank you Skye2sea. Your answer gives me hope!
Wow! Yes, for me this is true. I was put on Omeprazole and about 90 days later it started in. I lived with it for about a year until I started going back in time to when it started, and made an assumption that it may be this drug. I stopped taking it and replaced it with famotidine. It took about three weeks but I started fully tasting food again. I could "taste" food but it all was vague taste sensations and that metal/sweet taste. Also, time of dryness of my upper inner lip.
Prior to ME figuring it out, I had a host of blood tests, a pelvic to neck CT scan with contrast, and then a MRI of my head. This was all done to rule out any malignancies.
"They" even speculated that I had gotten COVID-19-19 and the taste thing was a by-product of it.
Nope! It was Omeprazole!
I've been on omeprazole for years, no ill effects to taste. Taste change can occur due to many things. My wife lost all taste and smell four years ago. ENT doctor said it's probably her age > 70. I would speak to your PCP preferably being an internist, make a phone call or send a message on the doctors' internet site portal many offices have this free service. Omeprazole is a PPI type med there are others you can switch. Here's a list with trade name and generic
