I was prescribed 40mg of OMEPRAZOLE for silent reflux once a day. The only symptom I feel is chronic cough and constant clearing of the throat. Once I start coughing then I get mucus and a runny nose. Cough and phlems can last 2 to three hours every day which it affects my daily quality of life. I read all the reviews in this website and not one person has my health issues. I am in my 3 day and cough it's still not completely gone. Please share if anybody has silent reflux and if I have hope getting rid of this cough with this medicine. I am 50 years old. Thank you.

Hello Sunshine07
I take omeprazole and I suffer from reflux and a great deal of mucus in the back of my throat. It causes me to cough and I also have a runny nose. I have decided to stop taking omeprazole and try ranitidine as I didn't have this problem when I took that tablet. We'll have to see how it goes.

Silent Refulx often manifests itself in a chronic cough and is usually a neurogenic cough which I understand starts from a virus. Have you had the tests for reflux? I have and it shows that I have reflux but not acid reflux. I have been coughing nonstop for 25 years and have tried all the reflux medicines and neuropathy/epilepsy drugs as well as botox and retylene injections with no success. hydrocodone Syrup has been the only successful treatment but with all the attention on opioid use, doctors will no longer prescribe it for me. I have been referred to a surgeon who does a procedure called Stretta which is a noninvasive endoscopic procedure that tightens the sphincter between the stomach and the esophagus thereby inhibiting the liquid from going back up and irritating the nerves. If the doctor agrees, I will most certainly go for it. You can google it and actually see the procedure done.
Good luck to you. Stay tuned.
Try all ppi's and h2's separate and in combo till you find the one that works don't settle for less , omeprazole is always the first drug of choice. I was on 40 twice a day for 6 months and was miserable now I switch between famotidine and nizatidine every 6 month
And they both work great for me. So don't give up or settle.
Have your Dr give you a 7 day trial of aciphex ( rabeprazole) it's a fast acting proton pump inhabitter works with in hours. I use it when I have brake thru. I say 7 days because you'll know with in 4 days if it's the right drug then get a script. Just came out in generic this year
Thank you for your comment. Did you suffer from chronic coughs. Because I never feel acid reflux, burning sensation or heartburn.
Its a good place to start. If needed your dr can move you to one of the newer ones.
how soon should I expect my cough to stop taking once daily 40mg of Omeprazole?
