Yes, Tramadol comes in ampules, tablets, capsules, powder for reconstitution, and oral syrups and liquids. You will need to mix with food as the taste is distasteful to dogs. If your vet is unwilling to find and order the liquid form you can try giving the pill in a Greenies Pill Pockets Allergy Formula. Hopefully this should make it more enjoyable for your dog to take its pain medication. Good luck.
Hi, I feel bad, I had no idea you could get tramadol in liquid form! Thanks for adding your answer, you've probably given good info to many people!
May I ask what type of cancer does your dog have, how old is he/she etc??? I am just wondering if they can't remove it or stop its growth, I know it's a hard thing to deal with, but have you considered euthanasia for your poor pup? We had to have our of 13 years put down, but she is still with us on the mantle in her urn & will always be in our hearts. We just couldn't stand to see her suffer anymore. She never complained, but the pain issues were there for sure. Just a thought...
Hi, my dog also had cancer & had the same prescription. There isn't a liquid form of tramadol, but there are other forms of liquid pain relief & injections (such as metacam, rimadyl, vetergesic) Also you can get palatable analgesics (such as rimadyl) which are very similar to dog treats, smell, taste the same. What type of cancer does your dog have? If the suggestions above are unsuitable, you can get a timed release form of tramadol, so you would only need give it once a day, & the veterinary nurse can go over techniques with you & your dog for pill giving.
Hi, I don't know if my answer helped, but if u want anyone to talk to in the future, I'm a trained veterinary nurse so I might be able to answer more of your questions...
Thanxs glad to know there are dog lovers.
Hi, I just saw your answer and would like to know if I could send you a question about my dog's situation. He is a lab and has cancer they believe thru blood work and ultrasound. I am so very confused as to my options with this. First they believed he had kidney failure but after the ultrasound they believe its cancer. He to has been ordered tramadol and prednisone. I feel like I am on the fast track to his death because I dont have the money to do expensive testing. Any help with helping me understand what the fast passed vets will not answer, and possible options for my dog would be greatly appreciated. This is very difficult to do thru for me. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Hi Bcanbuzz, welcome to the site. I'm so sorry to hear your news. I lost my dog to a gastric carcinoma in 2010 and i still miss him terribly. I have added you to my friends list, if you can add me, we can talk personally about this. The first thing that comes to mind though is a biopsy to confirm what is going on. Hope to hear back from you...
Hi Delila, thank you for the welcome. I am so sorry to hear that your dog has passed. It is so hard to let them go. I am having a hard time knowing my dog will be going on his journey soon. I have added you as friend and responded as well, hopefully that worked. Thank you. Also thank you to the original poster of this question as without your question I would not have learned the informaiton on here. I have also added you as a friend. Being new to this, I hope I have done that correctly. I hope your pet is doing well with the tramadol now, hoping that you were able to get the liquid for him.
Yes. There is a liquid form of tramadol that is taken orally. My chihuahua had a prettu bad head injury and was prescribed it. It was 25 mg per mL. I was directed to give my dog 0.5 ml twice a day. It was administered into his mouth with a syringe that had no needle.
All that is available is in pills/tablet form of strength 50mg, maybe call the Vet or a pharmacy, Tramadol should also be available as an injection, maybe please do reconfirm this.
Take care, best wishes!
