I take 10mg Lexapro 1x day, just started it 3 wks ago. I have been on it in the past and it did great for me, at one point I did take 20mg. I think its starting to help as long as I stay away from any drama right now. I never had any problems coming off it and its the only one I have taken without any side effects.
I've been on Lexapro for three years, and I love how it works for anxiety and depression. The only side effects I had were weight loss, in the begining, for about a year and a half I stayed a size 4. But later the second year I begain to gain weight. Went from a 4 to a size 9. didnt like that but, the lexapro worked for my problems, so i deal with the weight. Dont be afraid to try it, seriously, it could be the answer you've been looking for. good luck to you. Peace
Hi, My daughter took lexapro for a short time and it did help. She and her husband wanted a child and tried for 2 years. At the time she was working in a very stressful job. She was acting different and I sat down and we talked. She called the doctor and they put her on the lexapro 10mg a day within a week she was calmer and in a few months she found out she was going to have a baby. Of course they took her off. Any drug I think is a good thing if it helps you with the problems you are having at the time. Some time therapy can also work it depends each person is different. In our case I have a beautiful Grandson and he just lights me up inside. Just make sure you always let your doctor know how you feel and never ever be afraid to ask questions, this is your body. I hope I have been some help.
Hope my response is not too late. I changed from Celexa to Lexapro about 1 month ago. I'm at 20 mgs. So far it's been great. My family has noticed a difference in me for the better. Hope this helps. Cathleen
Hi dizzie
Thats great you contacted doc and got it sorted,i agree with Laurie the pharmacist was very careless with the meds but at least you checked it up.
I wish you the best of luck with the lexapro,as i said before what does'nt work for some, works wonders for others and i hope it does well for you.I wish you the best with these meds, keep us updated as to how its going

Hey dizzie,
I have taken many antidepressants. Seems I have to change every five years or so because I build a resistance. Anyway, Lexapro may be the correct medication for you. Trust the doctor's choice and give it a try for a month or so. If it is not for you, then you can try something else at that time. Finding a medication for depression/anxiety unfortunately is not an exact science. It is trial and error because everyone is different. Fortunately there are many medications to choose from for your conditions.
As far as the dosage question, this is what the literature says:
Adults
The recommended starting dose of Lexapro is 10 mg once daily. If the dose is increased to 20 mg, this should occur after a minimum of one week.
Are you taking 10 mg twice a day for a total of 20 mg or 20 mg twice a day for a total of 40 mg.? Forty mgs is way too much if that is what was prescribed. Better check the dosage with the doctor to confirm the directions.
My sister is presently taking Lexapro with great results and has been for years. There are others on this site who also take Lexapro with excellent results. Again, we are all different and what works for one, may not for another.
Hang in there and give it a try, you deserve to feel better,
Laurie
thank you for your reply , i did check it out with the doctor and its was wrong the tabs are 20mg but only to take one per day.. the pharmaist had wrote 20mg twice a day .. i will try them because i need something to help me .
So glad you caught the mistake, no excuse for a pharmacy to make such a mistake. They should always check their work before dispensing to the patient.
Good luck with the new med and keep us posted on your progress,
Laurie
Hi Dizzie
Yes i agree with oktoday, your doc has started you off with a very high dose, have you been on other anti-deppressants before? You should discuss your worries with him/her if you have'nt already. You usually start off on 5mg for week then up it according as needs be.Lexapro suits some and others not so.Myself i was on 20mg daily(increased over a number of weeks)It worked at the start but did nothing for me after a few months only made anxiety worse and panic attacks but i think my system just got used to the same meds over a number of time,so i had to change.Thats what happens when you start off on meds you need to try them out and see what happens then you might need to try another if nothings happpening with the current one, frustrating i know but what can you do?Anyway i would definitley contact your gp about the doses your on.You will read some good/some bad about lexapro but everyone is different, what suits one might not suit another.Best of luck with it and let us know how its going,we're here anytime.

For some people lexapro has worked wonders and for some it hasnt. I think thats a very high dose to start out with. I would ask your doctor to start out with the lowest dose possible. I belive they make 5mg pills. My experience was lexapro made me more anxious and it also caused my to forget where I was and I am 43. I was on it two years ago and it took my a couple of months to come off, it did nothing for my anxiety and also nothing for the depression. When I came off it, it was one of the worst medicines I ever came off of. Brain zaps and even more panic. That was me but I have talked to alot of people who it works wonders for but not for me. If it is prescribed for stress try doing other things for stress, excersise, some vitamins, listen to music. I know it can be real hard at times but the lexapro in my mind can make it worst or better.
Just in my case it made things worse and I think you should do your research and wait for more answers but in any case ask your doctor for a lower dose. Love, Peace, Joy Rob I know you wanted positive and like I said I do know people on it who do very well but just ask about starting at a lower dose and if you need to go higher you have that option.
