Directions say not to crush or chew. I have been cutting in half. She insist she will not be able to drink the powder if I get it. Any advice? Jean Cimino

well this is an old question but yes i cut it in half and drank cold coffee and i am fine.

Do not crush, chew, or break the sevelamer tablet. Swallow the pill whole. Sevelamer tablets expand when they are wet, and breaking or crushing the pill may make it harder to swallow.
Now, there is a powder form of this medication, which you could use as a substitute, consult with your doctor / pharmacist.

No, there is an alternative. I read that comes in powder solution.
