Why when I take my medicine Prozac do I get EXTREME heartburn immediately after I swallow it?

Thank you for the validation, I thought it was just me because I have to take 3 capsules everyday. I experience such discomfort like acid reflux or like I cannot burp, it drives me crazy. Doing the applesauce tomorrow morning, I’m so excited!

I developed the same thing. I called my pharmacist and they changed me back to the green and white pill manufacturer and asked me to call and report it. The blue capsule manufacturer's phone number is 1-866-210-9797. The green and white one never gave me heartburn. The gelcap theory seems right since it starts immediately and goes away in less than 2 hours when the outter portion would be disolved. Good luck.

I'm so glad I saw this! I used to take Prozac in different capsules, no problems for years. After they sent the blue capsules I am in agony... I've had this awful feeling of something stuck in my throat and it feels very acid-like... awful. I will now be mixing it in my food until I can get different capsules. Thank you.

I was proscribed Prozac (20mg fluoxetine) a couple of weeks ago and I had the same problem. I have no issue taking any other pills of any size. It's like it would be stuck in my esophagus for days and I felt heartburn right away after taking it. The pills I take are blue capsules and I found a forum online where someone was saying that it's the gelatin capsules that cause the problem. So I talked to the pharmacist and he said I could open the capsule and mix the medicine with food and take it that way. So now I open the capsule and dump it out into a spoonful of sugar free pudding, mix it, and swallow it, and drink water after. No more heartburn! I think you could mix it with applesauce, chocolate syrup, yogurt, anything like that. I just throw away the empty capsule. I hope this helps.

See if you can get another manufacturer for your Prozac sometimes that makes a difference. If you still get heartburn, talk to your doctor.
I hope others on this site will respond with maybe some options.
