I just bought 1000mg L-lysine to take for my cold sore out breaks, the bottle says do not ‘exceed recommended intake’ which is 1 tablet per day. Across the internet it says can take up to 3000mg, and is best for cold sores, can I go with that advise or stick to the bottle?

Hi, Cj!
I think that the information on Drugs.com can be relied on to be accurate, safe, and reliable. This is their recommendation:
"There have been various studies that link cold sore and lysine treatment. These studies have claimed that lysine helps in healing and preventing cold sores.
The recommended daily dose for prevention is between 1500-3000mg.
If you feel an outbreak coming on, you will want to increase your dosage to 3000 mg. Continue this dosage until scabbing occurs. Even though using lysine for cold sores can make a difference, it does take some time to find out what dosage will work for you."
Thank you for the quick response! I always get conflicted when there’s different recommendations etc, will go with Drugs.com!
Thank you!
