It's absolutely not safe to stop this medication cold turkey for most people:
"Do not stop using Ativan suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Follow your doctor's instructions about tapering your dose."
This could be somewhat of an understatement... some people may have "unpleasant" symptoms but many have very severe problems.
Ask your doctor for that reducing dosage schedule to follow.
