My buddy took his first xanax 2 nights ago. They are 2 mg and he wants to take another one tonight but has a drug test on march 8. I told him he shouldnt take it because i have heard it can stay in your system for a week and a half. What are the chances he will test positive?

Taking the second 2 mg could be close to problematic... they last a bit longer than the 2-3 days for heroin, oxy's and the like. If you were clean prior, that works in your favor . I use xanax on a binge once in awhile, but no more than 4 days with 2-4 mg a day. And size, age, diet , exercise play into effect. Light or one time users of Opiates last 3-3 days, benzo like xanax show a little longer, and pot a lot longer. Just my experience. I know it's a late reply, but maybe it helps others in the same boat more recently.

Many sources say 3-7 days but I, personally, had one dose of Xanax 0.5mg show up in a drug screen six weeks after I took it! I take Xanax prior to my dental appts, so I knew exactly when I had my last dose and six weeks later I had a UDS for a job and it showed positive for Xanax. Luckily I did have a prescription, so it was of no consequence but I do now know that benzos can be detected in the urine a long time! If he doesnt want Xanax to show on this UDS coming up, he'd better not take anymore-you are right, it can be detected a long time because it stores in the fat.

Great answer Dzoo, wanted to add that on the radio the other day I heard a Dentist advertising he would give you something to calm you down before working on your teeth! Bet he has a line all the way down the street today! ha... Couldn't believe it... Mary

My dentist has no problem giving me something even for a cleaning. I am terrified of the dentist but on top of that, my bite is soooo bad, if they dont give me something just having my mouth open sets my TMJ to spasm then I get a migraine so she sedates me a little. She is very sweet!

My dentist is that way too. She worries over me like a mother hen & 9 mths pregnant too! But to advertise they will give everyone something? I can't imagine! Guy must be desparate for patients or something... Mary

I am a Disabled Veteran,and have been on 2mg.s 3x a day.I have (sundowners syndrome) along with P.T.S.D.
During my years of taking this med.Since 03. My legs started hurting,so I ask my primary care Dr. at the V.A.clinic.They told me that your body stores xanax in your bone marrow,un-like T.H.C,from smoking weed,It's stored in your Body Fat for atleast 28 days!While Xanax could show up,up to 60-90 days after stopping,also warned me not to stop with out his help..could die???

Dzoobaby I am sorry and I don't mean to be rude, but this is the second comment I have seen of yours about taking one 0.5 mg xanax and getting a drug test 6 weeks later... someone is spiking your punch dear! Scientifically there is no way that would still be in your system.The half-life is how long it takes a drug to reach 50% in your body, which can help you determine how long until it is completely processed out. The half life of the Alprazolam in Xanax is approximately 11 hours and the total elimination time of a drug is usually 5 to 6 half lives, so it would be eliminated from your body in 50 to 55 hours, this is WORST case scenario.That being said there is a more accurate calculation for chronic users. Someone who have taken them for years can retain them in their system for a few weeks. I just had to tell you how ridiculous this story sounds. Really I'm not being rude just truthful..if you go out to the club or anything like that keep an eye on your drinks..maybe someone gave you a roofie.

Yes I agree, all the information says 3-7 days but I took Xanax... a little too many though but then I had to take a drug test for probation and I hadn't taken any in a month and I still tested positive so you really have to flush it out of your system by drinking a ton of water and cranberry juice and whatever other methods you use to flush your system... I wouldn't test it when it depends upon whether or not you go to jail!!!

I took 1 Mil of Xanax I barely take them very rare. I am a user of oxycodone 30mg and on Detoxing myself the hard way for my new job I got called early for. I was hoping with the detoxing being a cleansing it seems tat that 1 mg will be out by Friday afternoon I took the Xanax Monday morning. I can wait 48 hours to take test after orientation so I wanna know if I should wait the full time and go back or just take it get it over with. This is the last time I detox off these things Im 26 wit 2 kids and id rather just deal with the pains.

No way 0.5mg came up 6 weeks later. As someone said above, that's scientifically impossible.
