My teenager started olanzapine because he was having hallucinations and wouldn't sleep or eat. He started it a week ago and so far he is eating better but his sleep is still being interrupted and he is waking up at 3 and 4am and not hallucinating but acting hyper and talking to himself. He isn't as bad as before he began medication but it's still happening. Before the medication the hallucinations were making him cry and yell out loud. Now he is calm and laughing and drawing pictures but still not himself.
How long does it take for olanzapine to work?

Answers
"When you first start taking olanzapine, it may make you feel more relaxed and calm. Within 2 to 3 weeks, your other symptoms may start to improve. You may find olanzapine makes you able to concentrate better, and think more clearly."
One other thing... olanzapine is notorious for causing weight gain. If he starts packing on pounds let his doctor know right away.
