My mother, age 83, had a UTI and took 2 rounds of Cipro, for a total of 17 days. She was having some hallucinations before she was diagnosed but they have continued in the days after she finished the prescription. I was unaware that Cipro could cause this side effect until she was almost finished with the drug since I was not the family member who took her to the doctor.
How long after finishing RX for Cipro do side effects stop?

Adverse effects from fluoroquinolone antibiotics (cipro, levaquin etc) can begin anywhere from 2 hours after starting it to 6 months later. They last for 2-3 months for 50% of people, up to 6 months for 49% of people and longer for 1% of people.
Cipro is out of your system in 20 hrs in a healthy young person. It can take a little longer in older people. Once its out of the system, you are no longer having side effects of a medication. I'm not aware of it causing hallucinations either, however it will cause confusion. A bladder infection itself can cause confusion. In the elderly this is often the first sign of infection.
This is not true regarding Cipro. Side effects can appear weeks to a few months after taking antibiotics in this class of drugs.
Not so. I took cipro for 12 days and on the last day my ankles swelled which has never happened to me in my 71 years and my legs, back, and the bottom of my feet were in so much pain that Ih ad trouble walking down stairs. I though I could walk it off in my 4-mile morning walk but I couldn't. It's five days later after having been off cipro and my feet are swelling which is totally not the norm for me. Cipro causes effects in the body long after your 20 hrs. And as far as being a healthy young person, I am a healthy old person who is on no medication whatsoever. This drug is dangerous and I should have been told of it's side effects from my surgeon!
I like to now, this was about 6 years could all be out from Cipro side effect? Are you cured?
I am a diabetic patient. I took two round of Cipro, each time 20 tablets of 500mg. I am a diabetic patient. It attacked my nervous system. I feel tremor, shaking, burning, restlessness eye blurriness, anxiety,. I stopped it on sept 25th, 2018. will it go away of it,s own? Please help me.
depends. I recommend you take magnesium and calcium. Drink lots of water to try to flush it out of your system. do not eat anymore cipro ever. Put under you allergy list.
I am still suffering a lot of extra bits in the heart, shakiness. Only eye blurriness has improved. Now i need less insulin than before. Blood sugar is dropping quickly. I am taking Dutasteride for prostate. Does it have any effect on blood sugar? I take levemir and humalog for diabetes
My son had a UTI and was prescribed Cipro, which he shouldn’t have been since he has seizures. You would think the doctor would know better. I wished I had checked the side effects sooner. He took 4 pills before I knew the side effects. Now, he having extremely hard seizures. Praying that this medicine soon be out of his system and not adding to his seizures problems.
I hope I don’t have to the ER, can’t contact his neurologist because it is Saturday.
