I've been a lithium for 2 1/2 weeks and wake up with a bad headache everyday. Is this a common side effect and does it go away? I'm definitely seeing some improvement already in my mood so don't want to give up on it.
Can lithium cause headaches?

I used to get a top centre headache, which I named "the axe headache". It would happen upon initial 900mg lithium dose and would go away in about 30 min. I don't know what the cause was (dose?) I tolerated it as it was not long lasting but frequent.
No, headaches are fairly uncommon but they have been reported as a side effect for some users. You should let your doctor know as you may need a dosage adjustment if you're on too high of a starter dose. Otherwise, it may resolve on it's own but you should still tell your doctor that you're having these headaches.
Best regards and I hope you're feeling better soon.
I had a centre top head headache at 900mg li, upon ingestion; lasting 30 min.
