Is ultram considered a narcotic or opiate?

My Doctor just dropped me calling trammadol a Narcotic .unnnngh. I have been using for 15 years and had no side effects. I just don't understand ... Other than a few dooo gooders called a simple pain med a Narcotic.

I didn't have a clue ultra was opioid. I thought it was harmles except for dealing with pain. Whoa I need to read up on my meds

Yes it will show up. It is a centrally-acting synthetic analgesic drug. Opiates are drugs derived from opium. Opioids used to refer to synthetic opiates (drugs created to emulate opium, however different chemically). Now the term Opioid is used for the entire family of opiates including natural, synthetic and semi-synthetic... hope this helps

Pledge is correct, as is balbanese (sorry Lisa, I respectfully disagree with you, but just about the opioid part my friend) it IS considered an opioid analgesic just as he said.
But, as Lisa said, take the RX bottle with you to your test, and you should have no problems. Lisa is spot on with her answer regarding that, taking the bottle with you. Lisa is also correct that it isn't even considered a controlled substance at this point in time. But that may soon change, so do be careful when you take Ultram, as it may become a controlled substance soon.

Ultram is not a narcotic. It is not even a controlled substance in most states. While truthfully I cannot tell you if it will show up as an opiate on a drug screen or not , all you need to do is show that you have a prescription for it and it can not be used against you.

Yes it will, the names narcotic and opiate are interchangeable, however, some regard the word narcotic as is relates to street drugs, while opiate is reserved for prescription, tomatoe/to-mah-toe. Whatever you call it, it'll show up. Hope this helps.

Yes and no. Its Official title is "Narcotic-like." Ultram is an opiate but its not a controlled substance. Controlled substances are drugs that can be abused and ussually narcotics are controlled. I think in the future they will consider it a narcotic but as of now, its just a narcotic-like. Ulram is a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic that is underestimated on its abilities.
