I have had lumbar fusion at L4-5 and L5-S1 with two titanium rods, 6 pins and screws and metal baskets plus bone grafting in between the vertebrae. That was two years ago. Now when I do too much around the house or bend too much, my hips hurt terribly, and I get spasm above the area of the metal in my back. My fibromyalgia pain is severe in my legs and hips. Will Celebrex help me? Please write to me at: GrandmaSmith57@msn.com Thank you all.
Sincerely,
Diane Smith

Celebrex was designed for arthritic conditions but you can try it for fibromyalgia and see if it works but if it doesn't don't be upset because it was not originally designed for that specific condition
I have had fibromyalgia for decades. Sometimes the pain was so great that I could no longer function. I could not lift my arms above my elbows. I found out that the statins that were prescribed were a major factor. Also sleep apnea was a contributing factor. Addressing those issues made life bearable. 8 years ago when Celebrex was prescribed for arthritic knee pain my fibromyalgia pain almost went away. I thought it was a miracle drug. Since then I have had L4/L5 spinal fusion, Total knee replacement and several other surgeries. They always say I should stop the Celebrex and should not use it any more. Things are usually great for a while because they do spinal blocks, nerve blocks and have me on opioids like tramadol and oxycodone. But after I stop the opioids for fear of addiction and the blocks wear off I am back to levels of pain I don't want to live with.
For me Celebrex is my go to drug for pain, but I suffer a lot from inflammation in many areas of the body. Recently studies have shed a negative light on all NSAID's. However in reviewing several reports on-line it appears Celebrex and Naproxen are the least likely to case the issues described. During and after my colon surgery I was given Lyrica (Pregabalin) and much of that type has gone away. However muscle spasms and cramps remain. If naproxen helps then it is likely Celebrex would as well. Celebrex would be better in my opinion because it is a targeted NSAID and naproxen is not.
I use celebrex for pain. I have Osteo arthritis, fibromyalgia, myofascial pain & neuropathy. I don't use it daily becuase of the cost--but I do use it on evenings when I've had a long day, done exercise etc.. and am, in more pain. It DOES help. It works better than the OTC nsaids. I also use amitryptiline every night which helps a little. I know they say fibro isn't an inflammatory thing--but I have to say-- NSAIDS do help me--but I have to take enough of them and keep them in my system--which is not safe for me--so the one I do use is Celebrex and I use 1 or 2 as needed. I don't use it daily, although sometimes I feel like I could I save it for bad days.. If you TRY it--you will know if it works for you within a few weeks. I was helped in a day or two.
Oh.. I also have nerve pain and degenerative disc--so could be it helps that? not sure. But my all over pain level is reduced with celebrex.
I think for your situation, you might ask your doctor for Volteran Gel 1%. I have found it is awesome for painful joints and muscles. It's an NSAID that you spread on the skin. It'll seep down to the joints and muscles.
I have fibro, rheumatoid arthritis, osteo arthritis, degenerative discs, bulging discs, scoliosis and such. I had surgery on my knee last year to repair a meniscus pad and other problems and though it still hurts, I rub the gel on the joint and on my muscles and it really keeps my pain at bay.
If you do get a prescription, get one for 1000mg, it is cheaper in the long run.
Hi, I have fibromyalgia and I have been taking anti inflammatories for many years. I don't think they do much to help with the fibro pain. I had to stop taking amitryptiline last fall but continued on with the mobicox, and then switched to celebrex. By February I was in so much pain I could have happily ended it, but was (thankfully) put onto Cymbalta which is helping me. The celebrex does help with the other problems I have which may be confused with fibro pain but in fact is not (back, neck, hips). I think celebrex would probably help you because you have issues other than the fibro, but you may want to look into something to specifically target fibro pain also
Hey GrandmaSmith,
Celebrex is a type of non steroidal anti inflammatory generally prescribed for skeletal pain such as arthritis rather than muscular pain as in fibromyalgia. If the pain in your legs and hips is arthritis or bursitis then the Celebrex might help. Other medicines you might investigate for fibromyalgia type pain are Lyrica, Cymbalta and Savella. For the spasms you make mention of you might benefit from a muscle relaxant such as Skelaxin or Flexeril.
Best wishes,
Laurie
