i took macrobid for 2 days had a reaxction then began the bactrim ds for 5 days twice daily and it made me a nervous wreck and feel awful so i stopped 2 days early... do you think it was still effective? my symptoms have been gone since the 2nd day on macrobid. dr also said i could have a possible spot of mrsa which has also cleared up
Is 5 days of bactrim ds twice daily enough to clear up a uti and possible mrsa?

The only way to know about the UTI is by giving a clean catch urine sample, which is sent off to the lab to see if it grows any bacteria. Often doctors require you to do this anyway just to be sure the bacteria was killed. As far as the MRSA - you do not want there to be any question that staph bacteria that causes this is still active. MRSA is nothing to play around with, and from my understanding of it, once you have MRSA you will always have it - the antibiotics can knock it back, but anytime your immune system is compromised - if you are stressed, ill, have an accident, surgery etc. you are prone to it coming back full force. I know you just want a simple answer but neither of these infections can warrant a simple yes or no. This is a situation where it is imperative that you follow up with your doctor and have the lab tests done. I will be hoping with you that you do not have MRSA -
