Albuterol is not a steroid. Inhalers that contain just Albuterol, (Proventil, Ventolin, Pro Air) do not contain steroids. There are inhalers that do. Albuterol inhalers (rescue inhalers) are for immediate help when an attack happens. The inhalers that contain steroids are for daily use to help avoid the need to use your rescue inhaler to often.
Dancin gave you really good advice.
People that use an inhaler daily when they are not symptomatic are taking prednisone.
They are meant to, as mentioned, cut down the use of the rescue inhaler. It also lessens the possibility of developing COPD later in life.
