I have been on the implanon for over 18 months now and have had no periods in that time. However recently I have started to get only what I think should be periods but only occur after I have had sex with my boyfriend. Is this normal?

I've been having the same problem i have my implant almost 3 years now... Did anyone find out if it's really the implant? Did anyone remove the implant and the problem stop?
I have the same problem ladies and it deffinetly puts a unspoken strain on any relationship. I seen my doctor and was reassured that this is a common side effect caused by the implant. There is 2 kinds of implant (apparently) so there is the option to have it changed for a different type. The doctor went on to explain how it works and that it can cause phantom bleeding (not periods) as the implant prevents the releasing of eggs, during intercorse your womb can become irritated and cause old blood to be released, Esspeicaly if the intercorse is shall we say succsefull in achieving a orgasm. In this your body releases a relaxing hormone thus relaxing the womb thus resulting in bleeding. So in my opinion I feel with that info from my GP that I may opt for a different contraceptive as it means it will never go away. Hope this helps.
For what it's worth I'm having the same problem here.
Been to the drs and hospital for ALL the tests, smear, bloods, cervical screening, swabs...
I just keep getting told everything's "normal"
I agree with the last poster, to say it's "inconvenient" is an understatement. It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one but im seriously considering having it taken out.
Did you happen to take out the implant.. and if you did, did the problem go away?
Hi!
Posting an update, after the problem continued I decided to have the implant removed.
The nurse told me it’d be out of my system in about 48hrs, that was on the Monday and I went back to taking the pill.
The following weekend I was with my partner and no bleeding at all.
I’ve had no symptoms since so I really feel having the implant removed worked for me.
I hope this helps, I can’t tell you how relieved I am x
I have had nexplanon for five years now(I'm on my second implant) and have had the same issue. If I have sex I bleed, masturbate three or four times bleed, do any strenuous activity and I bleed, slowly. Not regular period blood, chunks and mucus that varies between dark red and brown for what seems like weeks. Didn't mind before when I was single, but now that I have a steady boyfriend, well it puts a huge damper on things. I been checked out been told I'm perfectly healthy over and over. Has anyone found a reason or solution? The excessive bleeding was a main cause of my last relationship break-up. Bleeding all the time equals no sex, yes,no babies either but, I don't think that's how it's meant to work!
Hi ladies.
I have been having these exact same symptoms the last 2 weeks.
Did anyone find out what it was ?
I'm having the same problem. I'm having an ultrasound today. Pap smear ok no STDs so hopefully ultrasound gives some answers.
Same here, did the ultrasound show anything? P
I am having the exact same problem and am freaking out! By any chance did you ever find out what caused this issue?
Any vaginal bleeding that is reccuring and not your normal period needs to be investigated by a Doctor.
I have no pain during sex, but afterwards when I am bleeding I get the normal period like pain. Like belly aches and the occasional headache. Have any clues to what it might be?!
I have the same issue.. Did you work out what was wrong?
No I still Havnt worked out what it is. But I do know I can eliminate STD's and STI's. if you get any info on what it might be please would you inform me too. Thanks x
I have the same issues. Must have something to do with implanon!!!
I have had the same exact thing happen! Its like this implant tries to make you not able to have sex! I got mine put in may 2013 and had one period in the first month then absolutely nothing until this past summer when I had sex for the first time in almost a year and I bled for like 5days then it stopped and I had sex again a week later and it started again and bled for 3days... I had regular sex for 3weeks after that but mo more bleeding.. Then I was about to have sex last week and we were at 2nd base and he noticed I started bleeding.. Out of nowhere! But it only lasted a few hours and went bak to normal the next day... What the hell is wrong with this implant!!!
I have been on the implanon for 2 years in february and for the last 3-4 mobths I have run across the same issues. I will get what I believe to be a normal period and once it stops and I try to have intercourse I will start bleeding the next day or even later that night it will usually last about 5 days and stop! I have finally just decided to have my implanon removed, because I'm tired or having ti buy tampons every other week! Its relieving to see that I am not the only one with thiS issue!
i have the same thing but my periods last for much longer, they can last up to 2-3 weeks and it has only happened in the last 3 months.
I've just come across this because I have this exact problem... every time I have sex... its bending my sex life because I also don't feel sexually active... I had a baby in august 2014 and I'm due to get mine out soon but... why is it now that I'm reading up on this. I have almost served my 3 year prison sentence (that's how I would describe it)
The things that have changed since having the implant in is:-
Bleeding after sex
Little or no sex drive
Anxiety
Loss of appetite
Migraines
And not forgetting my trip up to the A&E because I literally scratched my skin away.. bleeding, swollen, painful.. they refused to take it out...
Please if your having any of these things please go to your doctor because I regret having it put in!
It has to do with the implanon im experiencing the same thing unfortunately
I have the EXACT same problem!! I was fine, then i had sex and it was really painful and then i bled and had period cramps. Should i get the bar out???
