I have been taking a very low daily dosage (.125 mg) of xanax for several years. I am now trying to just stop using the drug. I take no other medication. So far the main sympton I am experiencing is muscle ache. I think I can beat this cold turkey. Given the low dosage, is there any reason to taper or use other drugs to assist?

Did you mean 1.25? Just curious.I went from 3 mg daily to 1.5 overnight. Stayed there for10 days and am now on 1 mg and can only stay on that for a week. Then I'll have to take just 0.5 for 3 days and I'll be out. My doctor died and I couldn't find any help at all. It's been quite uncomfortable. But I expected it. I tried to get my doctor to help me get off Xanax for two years. He just said "Get a pill cutter". He put me on Xanax after my son died and made a fortune off my misery. I wanted stop anyway so I'm kinda winging it.
Hi SFP,
Stopping any benzodiazapine cold turkey can be dangerous, one may have seizures. Call your doc/pharmacist for a taper schedule to be on the safe side.
I've never heard of Xanax at that dose, had no idea it came in such small miligrams.
Good luck, and be careful,

It is a low dose. But excellent advice as usual my friend. Always best to taper down on certain classes of meds. This is definitely one of them.
