I have been off of blood pressure medicine for several months now, but had continued taking Traimterene/HCTZ. Just realizing the side effects and should get off of this drug. How do I stop taking it safely?

You can just stop taking hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene ... you don't need to taper off. But please let your doctor knpw first ... they may need to monitor your blood pressure.
I stopped taking hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene when my gastro doc said it could be the reason I had a slightly upset digestive system all the time. I stopped and the digestive problems stopped. But, after about a week, my ankles began to swell and I had pitting edema which really hurt my ankles. I walk all day. So I called my Doc and she prescribed furosemideand a potassium pill. The swelling went down and I lost about 10lbs of weight that I had gained in the time I had stopped taking HCTZ. Checked BP and it stayed right around 110/65 the whole time. But I am glad to be off of the HCTZ. At least for now.
My doctor took me off this triamterene 75MG/HCTZ50mg tablets. In 2 days I filled up with 12 pounds of fluid. By the 3 day 14 pounds fluid. I went to a new doc. and he said the body reacts the opposite and retains when stopping this prescription. So I had to go back on them till I see my doctor. Also experiencing a lot of hair loss. Can't sleep at night because having to urinate every 2 hours.
