Does Humira Injection cause weight gain?

I have been on Humira for about a year and have gained almost 30 lbs but my arthritis is under control

Your not alone! I've been on Humira for about 8 months for psoriatic arthritis and I have gained about 10 pounds. For the last 3 months I am on a strict diet and exercise 40 minutes to 1 one hour every day. I have not lost one pound. If you mention the weight gain or inability to lose weight to the pharmacist or Humira rep they will deny that its from the Humira but it's the only medication I'm taking.

I've Chrome disease. I've recently had a quarter of my intestine removed. I've been on Humira weekly for the last 2 months. I"m walking every day about an hour. I noticed I've put on Weight since I started. I'm watching what I eat as well. I also noticed that I feel Hungary Al the time.
I took Humira back in. 2009 for a year and a half. I had the same problem.

I have been on humira for over a year. I have noticed weight gain and spoke to the Dr who confirmed it is a side effect of the medication. I can't get if off. I Crossfit 3 days a week and hike most weekends. My diet is not the problem. What can be done to get the weight off? Has anyone has success getting the weight off?

I have the same experience as pretty much everyone else. My suggestion: there must be an insulin upsurge with the drug while it's in our bodies. Try reading "The Obesity Code", or "why we get fat and what to do about it". both books suggest increased insulin (possibly a by product of Humira??? ) is the root cause, or the hormone that causes weight gain.

I have been on Humira now for 6 months and I too have gained a lot of weight. I am up 40lbs and it’s very frustrating! I am very depressed about it.

I have been on Humira for almost two years. I have gone from two injections a month to weekly injections. I have gained 30 pounds. I have changed nothing except Humira for my RA. I have tried diet and more exercise and can't lose a pound... So frustrating!

I’ve been on humira for just about 2 years and always have ate the same . Was always around 185pds 6’1 and in decent shape . Within last 2 years I have put on about 76pds and it’s very disheartening because I really on this medication

I've been on Humira for the past 12 months and I've gained 33 pounds. Several scientific studies have proven that there is weight gain when patients are on TNF inhibitors (Humira). In my case, I'm not only gaining weight, but my cholesterol and A1C have also increased. I go to the gym every day and have followed a vegetarian diet for the past 20 years. The pain and the stiffness are gone but also my six pack, LOL... I really don't care too much about my physical appearance, but what I do worry about is my body not breaking down fat and accumulating it in vital organs such as my heart, kidney, or liver. My Rheumatologist and I have decided to restart sulfasalazine so that I can go 4 weeks between Humira injections and hopefully loose or control some of the weight.

I've been on humira for a year. It was prescribed for me for uveitis. I have gained 45 pounds. No change in diet. If anything, I am eating better and with less food intake. The weight gain has made me tired and lethargic. It has become a vicious circle and I cannot seem to get the weight off. My doctor has run many tests on me trying to find the cause of exhaustion. I suspect this is it. By the way, the uveitis continues and still taking durezol. One good thing has come of it though. I do not have arthritis pain any longer. And my lymphacytic colitis is doing great on humira.

I started Humira 4 years ago,I weighed 100 lbs, after I started Humira I went up to 124 pounds. I have been off of Humira for three months and am now down to a hundred and eight pounds. I could not lose the weight as soon as I stopped taking Humira it melted

I have been on Humira for PA for six months. It has hepled immensely with pain in my hands, feet BUT I have gained body fat and been unable to add muscle mass, despite working with a trainer twice a week, soing reformer pilates twice a week and taking other classes at the gym every week.
I am ER nurse and generally am very active at work. I continually read that Humira is not related to weight gain, but in my case I am seeing an ancedotal link. Many who have gained wt seem to be Chrohn's patients and wt gain can be attributed to better absorption of nutrients. I am very frustrated at this and getting depressed.
