I have been taking 2 mg of Abilify for about one week. This is in addition to a daily dose of Paxil. I think I should get off of the Abilify because I feel a heightened sense of anxiety and sadness since taking Abilify. Unfortunately, I think it might be addictive; there was a feeling of relief from insomnia last night after I took the Abilify. (I have been suffering from insomnia for a few years.) However, this morning I am jittery and sad. I believe that this is a sign of a negative dependency on Abilify. I am concerned about how I should proceed tonight.
How can I stop taking Abilify? I am taking it along with Paxil?

Hi, Ikebons!
It will take a couple weeks, usually about two, for the side effects to resolve. They are not an indication of dependency or addiction... at least about 1-10% of new users will experience these effects. They are an indication that your metabolism is adjusting to the benefits of the medication. You're on a fairly low initial dose so you should be fine quickly.
I would continue the medication exactly as your doctor prescribed and give it another week or so.
Personally, I've taken aripiprazole (Abilify) for years with no problem... and it's changed my life completely for the better.
