Hi, suzy!
Unfortunately, most antidepressant/anxiolytics come with the potential to cause temporary new or increased anxiety that generally resolves within a couple of weeks.
"Common (1% to 10% of users): Agitation, anxiety, emotional lability, nervousness"
Everybody responds a little differently to the medication but for most people the increased anxiety subsides as your metabolism adjusts to the drug and the original anxiety/depression resolves.
I had a rough week or two but then began to feel the improvements as the side effects went away.
Best regards and I hope you feel better soon.
I too had a really hard time with Paxil. After some dosage adjustments and 14 days on it, I had to discontinue using it. We are all different, if one SSRI doesn’t work, it doesn’t mean another one will not work. Maybe talk to your prescriber about trying a different medication? Brain chemistry is a challenge to alter, and unfortunately for us folks that suffer anxiety, trial and error is a rough process. I hope this helps. Good luck to you.
