The time it takes for the NuvaRing to be effective as a contraceptive depends on whether another form contraception has been used previously, which form of contraceptive was used and if the NuvaRing is being started following childbirth, miscarriage etc. Each individual situation varies and the information is under “How to Start Using NuvaRing” on the below link:

thank you... i plan on taking it out during intercourse & then re applying it. but i wont take it out to clean it... i will just clean it when i take it out for intercourse.

i inserted it on the 7th day after i started my period, so i need to wait 7 days before it will be effective at preventing pregnancy?

That is correct - you will need to wait for 7 days before it stops a pregnancy.
