Can anyone tell me if they have any experience with taking valdoxan?
My doc added it to seroquel 300mg and xanax for severe anxiety and panic attacks, has anyone any comments good or bad with this med? The seroquel was making my anxiety worse and keeping me awake instead of putting me to sleep. He said this med would work, just wanted any feedback from anyone who knows or heard of this med??
Thanks in advance

Hi. I have been on valdoxan for three weeks now and im ok thus far. I sleep well. I get headaches everyday. Nausea some days and constipation just as my research on this med says. Im hoping for better results as time goes by. Different bodies react differently. I hope I helped someone in some way.
I've been taking 25mg Valdoxan for several years now. My experience of it is that it is a drug that lifts you to a place where you can do the work. Its not the whole treatment. I stay off the grog, exercise most days, eat well, maintain good sleep patterns, keep good friendships, plenty of sunshine and see a counsellor when I need to. All of these things help and Valdoxan lifts me enough to be able to do them. I have not experienced weight gain I loss that I can attribute to the medication. No libido or performance problems.
Valdoxan is part of my management plan for Dysthymia or Persistent Depressive Disorder.
Intense exercise for half an hour everyday has by far the biggest effect on mood. Its the only time I feel that I am slightly better than what I think is normal. This is key for me.
I hope this helps.
Hi puckiemull,
I've been on this medication for 6 weeks but I'm thinking about coming off it. My psychiatrist put me on it as an alternative to Pristiq which was giving me side effects. I've just had ECT therapy in hospital which was very effective and beneficial but the doctor wanted to start me on an AD to prevent relapse of the depression. However I've been finding I'm very anxious, super-restless and I cant' sleep very well. I don't know if this is due to the fact that I didn't take the Valdoxan for a couple of days or because I'm just sensitive to the drug. I think I'm generally sensitive to all anti-depressant medications which is the reason why I had ECT therapy. Most doctors like prescribing at least some kind of AD as a back up. I'll post again in a few weeks after I come off the Valdoxan.
I took Valdoxane 25mg last year with Lamitor 200mg. Eventually stopped coz i couldn't sleep. My depression seemed to feel better after i stopped and i slept again. Having recently been through a traumatic time in my life i needed help and am now back on it with a rather controversial sleeping tablet and topalex. I am fearful as i wake up with the most horrifying suicidal thoughts. Can it be this medication or is the problem that i cannot be helped anymore? Ive been on Wellbutrin and Seroquel and a host of others?
Hi all, I have been on Mirtazapine 30mg (avanza) for many many years and also on seroquel 75-100mg for around 4 years but am sick of the increased appetite effect so doc has decided to swap mirtazapine for valdoxan 25mg. I have only taken it 2 nights in a row and both nights found it easy to get to sleep but after 1-2 hours I wake up so unbelievably hot in my freezing cold room that I need to put my fan on and can't cool down and get back to sleep for another 1-2 hours. Even dosing up on xanax and temazepam has not helped me sleep right through. Has anyone else found a similar side effect with valdoxan? I should also mention i am a type 1 diabetic so the overwhelming hot feeling feels like i have keytones however when i test, my sugar and keytone levels are normal. have any other diabetics tried valdoxan? I am not taking it tonight so hopefully I can get a full nights sleep..
I am into week 3 of Valdoxan, including a taper off Lexapro. Started Lexapro due to both depression and real bad anxiety. Started Valdoxan with 25ml straight away with overlap of Lexapro 10mg for one week. The Lexapro taper concludes in 6 days (currently 5mg every second night). I did the switch because of nasty side effects of Lexapro. Since starting the Valdoxan, I must say both my anxiety and depression has reduced. Appetite has improved. Sleep is a bit wierd; takes a while to get to sleep and I get only about 5 hours, yet I am waking up without the terrible morning rumination and racing thoughts I used to have even whilst on the Lexapro. For that I am thankful. Will be interesting to see how Valdoxan works with the Lexapro completely out of my system.
I am just taking myself off Valdoxan for depression after having been on it for about 8 weeks. After side effects involving increased anxiety, I got benefit for two to three weeks, then the anxiety increased and I felt constant low grade adrenaline surges - not nice. When I forgot to take my medication one night, I got a better night's sleep. I took it for the next for days - awful - then omitted my pre-bed dose and presto, a fairly good night's sleep. In sum, I believe it broke my anxiety/depression cycle but then created slight mania. After having omitted the dose two nights running, I lost what I thought was weight increase around my middle - it must have been fluid retention. So maybe it's true that you don't put on weight but fluid retention is not a good thing. Perhaps my age - 54 and post-menopausal - has made me more vulnerable to fluid retention. Don't know.
Hi I suffer from bpd. I was on seroquel 300 mg and valdoxan 50 mg until recently. I felt the valdoxan did absolutely nothing for me, and after being on seroquel for 2 yrs I suddenly started having tremors which made me decide to cum off my meds. I am now going through withdrawal and taking xanax but o have taken up bikram yoga so I guess that will help me detox.
I ve been through the same..i know ur pain. and valdoxan does nthg for me now... but... Careful careful please... i have stopped antidepressant /anxiety meds before... u can do it withdrawals go away... but i always found myself more in pain (about life challenges and stuff) later... may not be ur case and yoga may be enough... But not always as good as yoga+therapy+a few meds... and xanax made a dear friend of mine addicted and worst than before now that he stopped... stopping made me waste years, stopped me from going to my dreams... and i love stuff like yoga... i hope im wrong and that u really thought thought thought before u stop. .. Cause even if its hard (u gotta find the right mix, without too many side effects)u can, and for some people it works well..friends and all... better than stopping all for a few years..it may be wrong in ur case...
but please dont be mad at me to tell u this, and think of it now, ask guidance and opinions of friends..before u make my mistake if u do this by impulse... sosorry to tell u this but we seemed very similar..hope yoga will help u too..
Hey everyone. Thanks so much to all of you for adding your personal experiences and advice. Its been an interesting read.
I've been on Valdoxan for a least a year now and havent noticed it correcting or dealing with any of the symptoms which had the psych put me on them to begin with. I was diagnosed with "Severe Depression" but Ive always been the happiest guy around. I was only, purely, suffering from the actual physical side effects. I'd always given people with depression no real compassion for what I would see. More of a "toughen up" attitude... until the psych put me through the barrage of different Anti's. Holy crap... THATS when the mental problems came into effect- when they put me on these stupid things to fix the physical effects I was having.
I've tried 4 different ones (cant remember the names now) and most affected me horribly. I've found that even if I take a sleeping tablet (over the counter type) it had me more drowsy and uncoordinated at work the entire 8hrs of the next working day. It appears my liver doesnt metabolize these medications well. I should note that I've had Type 1 Diabetes since I was 3yo and coeliac disease (gluten intolerance) since I was 8yo. lol fantastic combination huh!
So yeah, back to the Valdoxan... I was put on that and all I am is more drained and tired all the next day. I cant think at ALL on the job and Im making THE MOST STUPID mistakes because I cant get my brain in gear at work. Its so embarrassing. The guys at this new site think Im a retard as a result.
No matter how much sleep I get, I wake up feeling like I've had 1 or 2 hours. Its really screwing up my life. I think, tonight after reading all this, that Im going to stop taking the 25mg dose Im on and will have to try something else. Something natural. I might go and see a homeopath or similar and see what stuff they can put me on.
I'm just praying I can get back to the sharp, witty, clear-minded bloke I've been my whole life until the last few years. I really want to not have a cloudy/foggy head all day every day
I have just started valdoxan (3days) and have stopped cymbalta which I have used for years for major depression I developed very bad insomnia and with panic attacks and anxiety. Was on zyprexa zoloft prozac etc and now trying valdoxan I am having heavy crying depression spells. Does anyone have info on this drug as to whether it helps depression . Doc says it takes up to six weeks to work .
I was recently prescribed valdoxan 25mg by my GP for depression. Never took anything prior to this drug. I was told that I would not feel any "benefits" for at least 2 weeks. 12 days into the medication I felt dreadful. I couldn't sleep, I was all hyper and I had this horribe heavy, sickening feeling in my head. I felt woozy and what I can only describe as a heavy feeling similar to that of concusion. I stopped taking Valdoxan yesterday and I am going to tell my doctor I am no longer taking this drug. I would not recommend this to anyone based on my experience.
Hiya has any one tried to come off Valdoxan and hit a brick wall? After one month it got so unbearable I had to start it again, I could not think to such a point I was unable to work. I am and was on other anti depressants that had and were supporting me, the hopes were to tea Siskin me over to Valdoxan, but it is so new in my country and when I tried to come off it it became awe full, I did not return to how I was before??
I posted this q a while back and just got notification of your reply.
I did infact come of valdoxan,it did not help me to start with,so i noticed no difference when i did come off,i gradually reduced my dose over a few weeks and then came off altogether.
I hope you were sucessful in coming off this med and that you found something to help you.I am still taking xanax, but that is it,after trying many meds and with horrible side effects to most and the rest just not working for me,I gave up and i stayed on xanax for my anxiety,it helps alot, but i do have my down days where i dont know where i am or how i am feeling, but due to bad experiences,i decided to try fight it without anti d's,everyone is different and all the better when you find something that helps and works for you!!
Hiya
Thanks for the repose, much appreciated. Because there are few side effect of Valdoxan, my doctor in his infinite wisdom told me to just stop it with no weeing process, to be fair the drug has only just been released in SA, so it is new to everyone here. For how long did you ween off of it for?
Do you have to have liver function tests at all, or has it been a recommendation for you to have it?
I must admit the Xanor (Xanax) works well for my insomnia, the anti-d's have not made any difference in 5 years, ok that is a lie, when things got super harsh, they numbed me, but I don't feel like myself at all.
I am going to try come off everything that i am on tranquilizers and anti-d's, I just found out from a homeopath a whole bunch of answers and found out somethings that are not functioning properly due to these meds, I really have messed up my system, from just accepting what doctors have said and not doing proper research.
Thanks for the info. Ps you sound like you are doing ok with no anti-d's.
Hiya,
Sorry so late in replying. I had to have blood tests while taking valdoxan, but because i came off it i did'nt have anymore tests since and i am off a good while now.
I totally agree with you in the way doc's hand out anti d's,I felt like i was just skipping from one to another and nothing good happenin with any of them.
I also am suffering from endometriosis(i dunno if you're male or female),but alot of my anxiety was due to hormones and time of month.
I've went to cbt therapy and it helped a little, but i really have to say the xanax are keeping me at bay-I may be slammed for saying that and alot of docs over here in IRELAND are not happy prescribing benzos,ie.xanax etc, without adding an anti d to the mix,but i found it was the best of the lot!!
I wish you well in coming off your meds,if thats what you feel you need to do,not all meds are bad and some people need them to funtion normally on a daily basis and i totally get that,I just dont agree with doc's or pysc's that hand out anti d's like sweets without warning the consequences. I've had bad experience with pyschiatrist over here because i was attending public and did'nt have the funds to attend a private one,i was messed around as alot i've made friends with on site are aware of,the public health system sucks over here,so it was either stay attending and go into a zombie-state or do as i am,thankfully so far I'm better at this side of things,I hope you get there too and I'm sure you will!!
Here to talk anytime, hope it works out for you!!
Hiya
Our public health system here, is really bad, so if you want any decent medical treatment you have to pay or have massively expensive medical insurance to cover costs, and even then they might not cover it as the medical aid providers will say ie Xanor is not on our list of allowed medications for that disorder. Does not matter even if you have tried all the ones that are on the list and do not work. I have been to private doctor after private doctor, for 5 years and they have just been so wreckless. Never done a liver function test.
My homeopath said to me smoking is the least harmful thing I am currently doing to my body, I was shocked at that meaning the medications that I am tacking are worse for my body, yet smoking has such a high awareness, but non of these medications do.
Hormones, I have been to countless doctors before my wheels fell off my wagon, specifically about my menstration, and only this homeopath asked me if I have clotting during my mense and I said yes. I was under the impression this was normal, he said to me it is not normal and it is a clear indications that, my hormones are not right, along with the mental crash I get when I get pms. I am 33 and shocked that by now no one has figured such a simple thing out.
Basically without my hormones working right, I have battled so hard to come off stuff, that I crash so bad that it is beyond barable. And the liver not functioning well makes it's worse.
Ps one doctor said to me that Xanor is not that bad for you, I think most of them are scared of them because they are highly addictive, but I have proved them wrong, they started me off on a super high dose, and as my stress went down I was able to reduce the amount, contradictory to their statements that over time I will need more and more.
I cannot believe that none of them have every done a liver function test, I am trying to do a simple detox by just drinking water, and I am battling so bad, my homeopath says he won't even try and do a normal detox with me because my liver function is so bad that I won't be able to function at work, like a normal person would be able to.
My adrenal and putritry glands are so messed up, that I am unable to exercise with out crashing into server depression, the homeopath explained it to me, due to the medications that I have been taking. My psychiatrists answer to me crashing was I'm on the wrong anti-d that is the only answer for everything I have asked them, that I have received in the last 5 years, when I hear those words now, I want to punch them!
I have done a lot of reading up about when the hoempath is saying and they all interlinked, like your liver effect your hormones, it cannot process the estrogen out if it is not functioning well, which puts your hormones out of wack. And your hormones are directly related to female sanity.
Another thing that we are looking into as treatment is magnesuim. Magnesium deficiency is common, and the side effect are, depression, insomnia, migraines, headaches, muscle aches and if I'm not mistaken endometriosis. I have suffered 75%of my life with bad headaches to the point I had to give up my sports. I am busy doing Epsom salt baths when I can as magnesium is absorbed throughout the skin.
Ps I am on chase berry supplement for normalising out my hormones and menstration.
Oh what is yout take on psychologists and councillors? I wasted money on this as well, people who just let you come and whine about where you are at, but do not give you coping tools to deal with emotions and life. I am thinking of trying a life coach to try get things right and learn to deal with life and emotions. I really did not have the tools to process things when they got really bad, and that I how I landed up on anti-d's.
Thank you for the active chat, there is some comfort in it and sharing of ideads or things. I think it is also nice to know that I am normal or that I'm not the only one out their batteling it away :)
Hope u having a good week
Of course you are normal and not going through this alone,I have had the same thoughts myself over time and you can get comfort in knowing I am here for you, aswel as many others on site!!
You have been through the mill as have i,it's certainly not a nice place to be in,
I have been to and fromm docs since I was 16suffering with pms,bad periods, hormones all over the place and it was just last year at 25 that I was diagnosed with endo. I told my then pyschiatrist about my hormones maybe being the cause of my depressing feelings and anxiety, but he still just threw me tablet after tablet,I am also a smoker myself and was shocked to hear what you said your homopath said to you,it's a terrible state to be in and very unfair that we have to be treated like guinne pigs in order to keep our hormones under control.
I know myself that when it's coming to my time of the month my anxiety hits the roof and I feel like I'm going insane!! The xanax is the one thing that keeps it at bay. I am suffering with pain 3weeks out of the month and yet the gyne's here are useless with that also.(That's a hole other misery story)haha!!
I am currently on Valdoxan 25 mg single dose at night. I don't take anything else except an occasional dose of Passiflora for anxiety. I was chronically depressed and anxious but since taking Valdoxan I feel a lift in mood, I sleep great and I seem to be a slight bit more calm. I've been on it for about 14 days and I don't feel any side effects.
I don't take any other drugs and rarely drink any form of alcohol so I think that might make a difference. I personally think mixing all these different medications causes them to react differently with a variety of body chemistry's .
hello Puckiemull, i just started my new medication yesterday:
- XANAX XR 3mg in the afternoon
- VALDOXAN 25 mg : at dinner time
- SEROQUEL 300mg: at bed time.
I also suffer from depression, anxiety and panic attacks. I am always very afraid of taking new medication. The Xanax is an old friend of mine, I am on it for about 12 years. The other ones are new.
I had a very deep sleep, and it was very difficult for me to get up in the morning. I was all day without energy, will this go away?
XOXO
Hiya
I think I am on a similar concoction to you I take Xanor, a sedative, which I think is your Xanax, they call it different things in different countries. Pls pls be careful, I am now sitting with liver damage, due to these drugs, I see a post on this page mentioned seroquel also affecting the liver. I have too noticed such sluggish mornings, and you would need to remove tranquillisers to not feel sluggish. I have also been on seroquel and it made me really sluggish the next day. If you feeling sluggish it is not right. And I recommend asking for second opinions, and doing liver and gland tests to see that all things are functioning well.
I might be a rare person, but after a 5 year process, and no joy on these medications and now finding out that these medications and my mix of meds that I have been given has actually done some major harm to my system. I would be cautious and say try empower yourself with as much knowledge as possible as to harmful effects of the medications. I am currently in the process of coming off everything and it is harder to come off than to start them.
I hope my answer helps you.
Valdoxane is working for me - just completed week 2. So far so good. I still take Dormonoct to help me sleep - the ultimate goal is to come off the Dormonoct. Baby Steps.
I have not had any side effects. I will keep you updated.
Tks
I have been taking 25mg Valdoxan for 2 months. It ruined my circadian rhythm. Caused insomnia and disturbed sleep. A barely noticeable effect on depression. Elevated liver enzymes so I have to take Milk Thistle and NAC. Also caused anorgasmia. I'm trying to go back to Wellbutrin and I'm experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Please note that the half life of Valdoxan is only 2-3 hours yet Servier reccomends a single nightly dose. Strange! A pdoc told me that to his opinion agomelatine is no more potent than over-the-counter melatonin yet it's more expensive and poses greater risks.
Thanks for your reeply..
Would you not recomend valdoxan then?I'm only on it 1 week tomorrow,i dont notice any difference with moods, depression anxiety etc,but i was'nt expecting to as its early days, but i was hoping i might get some relief within a few weeks..
Your opinion,no? I'm also on seroquel and xanax but still having trouble sleeping..
I wouldn't recommend Valdoxan. It's dangerous snake oil. A recent research by a French agency lists Valdoxan as one of the 8 most dangerous drugs sold in France and demands its immediate withdrawal.
Another drawback of Valdoxan is that it is difficult to use in cocktails because of its effect on liver enzymes. The safest combination is with Escitalopram which is the most gentle on the liver and with Lyrica which is metabolized in the kidneys. I have the impression that Seroquel does affect the liver so perhaps it is not wise to combine the two.
Have you tried Remeron for sleep? It has the unusual characteristic that the smallest the amount you take the more it puts you to sleep.
Hi petg,
Sorry late getting back to you,i have'nt tried that med for sleep.
I've been on lexapro, lyrica, lustral, prozac, effexor and now the valdoxan and seroquel, all for anxiety and depression,i'm feeling nothing from these meds,i dont want to switch meds again, but i dont see the point taking them when they not working.I'm sick of been an experiment with my pyschiatrist.
Hello petg57.
Could you, or anyone reference to that research of French agency about 8 most dangerous drugs ? Sounds really important.
Good luck
Hi petg57
I am new to this forum. I just noticed your notes on taking Valdoxan. I have been on it for 14 days & haven’t noticed any benefits yes they say have to take it longer. After reading your response I feel the same yes sometimes I sleep a little better but I was waiting for this beautiful 8 hour sleep but nothing like has happened. I am still crying agro impatient & so depressed that the Dr said after 2 weeks if you don’t notice any benefit or change take two omg that’s $120 per month & as you say it’s no better than over the counter sleeping. I had to take Endep today to calm down.
Like many other people I have tried so many antidepressants. You don’t know what to do. Everyone is different & it must be frustrating for the Drs. I see her in a couple of weeks, will have to back on Zoloft with all it’s side effects. Maybe someone might have the answers & could share their experiences. Your note was a few years back wondering how you go on. Thanks. dai73
Hi Puckiemull! Sorry, I have not personally tanen Valdoxan. I am sorry that you are not feeling your best. I know, however, that some people responded well to this medication. I hope that it will work for you! I have been stuck indide because of these 100 degree temperatures here. The medications that I am on really do not react well in the heat. I become extremely hotter and sweat profusely which makes my BP go up. Alot of people who are perimenopausal or post menopausal and take SSRI'S have this reaction. I just stay in the good ole AC ! Well I hope that you feel better with the Valdoxan. Sweetie Pie
Thanks for that SPie,
Great to hear from you!
I'm sorry you're not doing good in the heat,i cant imagine what it must be like living like that daily,we Irish dont experience much good weather and when it does,it dont last, but probably a good thing for me at the mo as these hot flushes from that injection are driving me crazy,so i dunno what i'd be like with heat like ye all have!!
Hopefully this valdoxan will work along with seroquel, ease these panic attacks.
Talk to you soon thanks again
