I've been on Valtrex for about 3 months. I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same problems as me. At first if I miss one dose my symptoms came right back. So my doctor had me take it twice a day for a month. I'm back on once a day and now my symptoms come back about 4 hours before I'm due to take my dose. The medicine doesn't seem to work for 24 hours. Also, does anyone else have "continuous herpes"? I thought people got "outbreaks" mine never goes away!!!
Help!! Valtrex ... stopped working?

Have you talked to your doctor about taking a second pain med for the 4 hour period? One Tramadol could cover your pain period without overdosing on your regular med. Some other pain med might work better but tramadol has fewer side effects and drug interactions.
my outbreaks were/are severe. i have been on Valtrex 500mg for 6+ years, if i miss just one tablet or feel the tingle, i need to take it morning and night for 4-5 days. 3 years ago a doctor took me off it, within a week the outbreak was severe, it took a month of twice a day, before symptoms subsided. If you are on a lower dose, maybe you need a higher.
i refuse to take less that 1gram once a day no outbreaks for almost two years before on 500 4 times a year on acyclovir about six . so it's different for everyone
Please see dosing recommendations in link below. Perhaps you should be taking Valtrex twice a day.

In terms of "continuous herpes" perhaps your immune system is down at the moment. Are you any other medicines that may be making you immunocompromised? Are you just "run down" or stressed, etc.? These could return in continuous infection, one which is hard to overcome.
