My Rheumatologist prescribed pantoprazole (Protonix) so I could take the NSAID meloxicam (Mobic) for arthritis pain without causing stomach/gastro ulcers or bleeding. BUT, the pantopazole causes my eyelids to swell. I decided to give it a third try, and had the same reaction as well as now having my feet and lower legs swell. So I've stopped. (I took them for about 4 or 5 days; if I'd taken more, would the swelling stop?)
My son takes Nexium for his stomach issues and swears by it.
Does anyone have ANY insight into my problem or these two drugs (pantoprazole vs Mobic)?
Have you tried pantoprazole or meloxicam? Which works for you?

Arrrrgh! I meant to ask: pantoprazole vs nexium... To work w/the meloxicam, an NSAID drug used for pain.
Sorry for the confusion!
I am really not interested in other classes of pain meds at this point.

I've been on Mobic but had to stop due to the extreme stomach upset and pain. My mom takes Mobic with Prevacid to help protect her stomach from ulcers and GI bleeding. So far so good. The only medication that helped protect my stomach from NSAID damage was Carafate (Sucralfate), it's an anti-ulcer medication. Only one problem, even though it helps protect the stomach, it interacts with alot of other meds and can be constipating.
Thanks for the info, I will try it! Good luck to your Mom!
my doctor recommended taking Omeprazole (generic Prilosec) with the meloxicam she prescribed for Arthritis pain. I've been taking both for several years. Should I be concerned about liver damage, etc. ??
My doctor just put me on Mobic, 1/2 tab, 7 1/2 mg a day. The first day I felt great, no pain! Second day, same things except I was up all night with my stomach. Just 1/2 tab a day! I even took Rantitidine before to coat my stomach and it didn't help. If you can find a way to take this med without stomach pain, let me know asap. It works great on my arithritis pain, but tears up my stomach.
Thanks!
I was doing the same thing, taking Ratinidine before. My doctor suggested taking Prilosec instead before I took the Mobic. It worked! Somthing in Prilosec that keeps the Mobic from upsetting your stomach. My only problem with Mobic is dry mouth... :(
I don't know. Opiates very rarlely interact with any other drugs, unless your on a high dose and take benzos then they can be dangerous if you do not follow dosing instructions TO THE TEE. Or if you stop breathing it's your fault. But I'm really sorry about those drugs they give you cuz I don't think your pain will go away and why not use opiates and get rid,or help more than that wierd stuff, but I have alot of arthrightis in my hands but with the opiates make the pain non-existent.
I appreciate your comments, but as you can see frm my clarification I phrased my question wrong! I have a problem with NSAIDs because they tear my stomach up. They work great on my arthritis pain, if only I can take something to countleract the stomach reaction.
