My test was positive for oxycodone when I have been off oxycodone for over three months, and have only been taking hydrocodone (Norco 10/325), for pain for the month and 1/2 prior to the test? The test came back positive for opiates which is what it is supposed to, but not for oxycodone. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Has anyone had a false positive urine screen drug test for oxycodone?

I have just had a similar experience. I have seen the same rheumatologist for years; and, he does my pain management. I don’t get pain medication from any other physicians; I use one pharmacy... I have been on only oxycodone for pain for a couple of years now. I also take Levothyroxine, asthma inhalers, OTC antacid meds, numerous supplements. My rheumatologist is aware of my supplement use; and, has called me his “poster child for what alternative medicine and nutrition”... Two days ago, one of his nurses called and said that my last two drug screens (done every visit) were positive for “morphine metabolites”; and, if I continued using it and tested positive again, I would be discharged from the practice! I swore to her I have never taken anything that he didn’t prescribe for pain! I am 61 years old, a disabled RN, and totally naive as to obtaining drugs illegally! I am at a total loss! I just saw him on 11/5/18; he said nothing about this to me during my visit.
I take norco and norco only so does my sister we both showed positive for OxyContin and mop. I swear on my life this is all we took. I know others also only take norco show up positive for both mop and OxyContin on the drug screen cups. What I think is ridiculous if you take a more potent drug like OxyContin you show up only for OxyContin if at all depending on the panel There needs to be some serious confirmation and communication out to clinicians and physicians
Did you ever find out why this happened or what caused it? Same thing happened to me.
In the past 5 years that my urine had been tested I had a false positive once for demerol. The last time I had that was 20 years ago when I have birth to my son. So I thought about it and realized I left the exam room before the nurse put my name on the urine sample. I now longer leave until they do. And it hasn't happened since. It can also be the lab it's sent to I believe.
Just tested positive for oxycodone but I don't take that. Only thing I have taken is night time sleep aid and a anti diarrhea... why would it what would cause this?
Actually there is something in some anti diarrhea medicines that can get you high. So it's possible that it could be a false positive from that.
my brother just resently got out of prison and he is wearing a drug patch
he has sugar diebitas and is taking percocit (my spelling isnt that great sorry)
for pain. Apperently he ran out of his meds so his wife gave him a hydracodone when he went to his p.o. he tested pos. for cocoain he swears
he hasent done cocain and ask for a lie dector test they refused him so im
trying to look for information to help him thank you
No definantly not this person is aquiring street drugs or seeing another physician to get the oxy it should have been out of their system in 2 weeks.
After consulting with my pharmacist and the Drs office that has been administering these tests, It is well known that oxy can show up as positive in a urine screen if you are taking hydrocodone. The Drs office has stopped sending these "false positives" in for mass spectrometry testing as they have had over 95% come back as falsly testing positive for oxycodone, when it was indeed hydrocodone. Since the person who had this false positive was me, and I know perfectly well that I had only taken norco (hydrocodone) for over a month, I was determined to find out the truth. Depending on the urine/drug screen used, it is possibly (and with some tests even probable) that you will test positive for oxycodone if you have only been taking hydrocodone.
Anonymous is wrong. I take Norco (hydrocodone 10/325) 3x day and have since 2007 for severe back pain. I also have bursitis and take Naproxen (Aleve). I saw a pain mgmt doc last week and tested positive for Oxycontin and THC. I have never had an Oxycontin in my life and do not use marijuana. I have done tons of research and found that prolonged use of hydrocodone can give a false positive for Oxy, and Naproxen can give a false positive for THC. I have never been so embarassed in a doc's office in my life, and to make it worse, my 28 yr old son was with me. Of course, he knows I don't do either drug. So, now I have to submit to more extensive, and more expensive, blood testing to prove my innocence of taking "street drugs." The thing that makes me livid is that the doc had a list of ALL medications I take, including OTCs.
Many OTCs, including vitamins, allergy meds, and antibiotics, can cause false positives, so take a complete list of all drugs you take and carefully explain how each is used and how often. I had taken Naproxen the night before my urine test. Shouldn't a pain mgmt doc KNOW these false positives??? BE CAREFUL with your medications, no matter WHAT they're for, and avoid any OTCs prior to a drug screen.
I recently had a false positive for Oxycontin. I've been taking MS-Contin and Zanaflex for a number of years because of chronic pain from a spinal injury. I recently moved to a different state and started going to a new pain management clinic. They did the initial urine drug screening and everything was normal based on my meds. On the second visit, my urine test was positive for Oxycontin at the clinic. They sent it on to the lab which also showed positive for the Oxy. They called me in for another urine test which was okay. However, the clinic and doctors are suspicious of me and it is upsetting me alot. The only time I took Oxycontin was 11 years ago after a back surgery. It made me so sick that I vomited for 2 days straight. I put it on the list of meds I cannot take due to allergy or bad reaction. The clinic knows this. I asked if the pharmacy could have made a mistake and the doctor frowned and told me "absolutely not".
They think I either took it knowingly or someone slipped it to me. I'm pretty much housebound without a vehicle and my husband is gone 70 hours a week. I don't go anywhere or know anyone in our new area who could have done this. My meds haven't changed for years. If anybody has an answer for this one, please let me know.
i have took Vicodin for 4 years and two years ago Dr changed me to Norco He recently did a drug test on me and i tested negative for Norco i take them 4x a day their is no way i should test negative .. took a second test two weeks later negative again now im sure he thinks I'm selling them or just not takeing them and i assured him i am taking them like i am supposed to .. now he has refered me to pain management Dr and is not going to prescribe me any Norco again ... I am very mad and upset he believes the test results and not me the patient .. I spent two years of testing with him and many many test and money and one test can scare him away .. has anyone else felt this embarrassment i'm not a addict and i don't need money so why am i testing negative for opiates ?
I have been taking hydrocodone for 3 years, I had to take a drug test a few days ago and tested positive for hydrocodone and oxycodone. I do not take oxycodone, and could possibly lose my freedom over this. they are sending my urine to a lab for more testing, hopefully they will see the truth, right?
It would be nice to get a Drs opinion on this site not really any good answers to our questions
I agree anonymous is wrong. I tested positive for oxy last tuesday, and i really got upset, i am on ms contin and have taken tylenol 3 for breakthrough pain. I do not have to take the T3 lately as the warm weather helps my pain, but, if i cant sleep cuz of pain i will take a half, i do not remember taking any the weekend or so before the test. i knew i was going to be tested, although even if i did take t3, it wouldnt be a problem. i get tested regularly for a long time and i never tested pos for oxy. They sent it to the lab and i will do more research, and pray that it comes out telling the truth. Has anyone ever had the lab come back with a false positive? that would be a real real drag. boy i will be upset if that happens, i will offer them my hair and blood. ??? oh well, thanks sorry for the ramble it is my first post.
i can believe that on false positives.my husband had been working a damn good job for over a year made $17.50 an hour,he was on prescription oxycodone 15mg 1 every 6 hours. cause he has DDD degenerative disc disease in his back. but he would not take them a t work cause they made him groggy.so at work they have a medicine cabinet with everything from tylenol ,ibuprofen, anacids u name it.so while at work he took aleve(ibuprofen) like candy.he hurt his ankle at work so they took him to the doc they use . he gave em a list of meds he was on. and of course gave him a drug test and he failed . from the oxys. so they sent it off for further testing and it came bck with false positive for thc.he does not smoke.well he did some online research and u would not believe the list of meds that will give fale positives for thc, some u can get otc. and ibuprofen is one of em.and the company still fired him, even after he printed that off line and showed em.
to TIGERS ms contin is in the family of oxycontin so u would test positive for it
to MOVIE vicodin and norco r the same thing.the generic for both is hydrocodone. the only difference is vicodin has 500 mg of tylenol, and the norco only has 325.
I have not read all the replies yet, but when I read the question I thought that was me asking, but didn't remember doing that. Anyway, that is exactly my question. I've been in pain mgnt. for years and on hydrocodone, and was on oxycodone for a while but ask for it to be discontinued because it did absolutely nothing for me. Just up my hydrocodone. That is still not adequate, but it does help. I finally found pain mgnt in my town (had been traveling almost 2 yrs. before)so have just changed, he changed the oxy 3 mos.ago, but my last tests have come back positive both times for oxy. I absolutely have not had one oxy in 3 months. Xanx came back too, I have had about 3 in a months time, which I need, but of course they won't prescribe. I have severe muscle spasms in my pelvic floor that throbs like a toothache! I use to get Soma which was a God sent, it went right to the exact place it needed to be, here again that's gone with the Dinosaur .
But, thank ya'll sooo much for this post, I will print it for my doctor. I hate starting out with a new doctor with this kind of thing going on. We as pain patients have no credibility and this is just not right that we have to be held hostage by these doctors and labs, and these doctors should know all this, if we can get the information why can't they, in their on specialty? It is bad enough having to deal with this pain, and constant stress about everything concerning our condition, family, prejudice, money for doctor appts. and meds. As you can see I'm pretty angry about this. I have been in this medical circus for 13 yrs and this is not the first time this kind of thing has happened, and it was the medical people who screwed me up in the first place. Thanks, I'll shut up now.
