My psychiatrist prescribed me venlafaxine (for depression) a few days ago. I have also already been taking Vyvanse (40mg) for the last 3 months for ADHD. I have seen here that there is a major drug interaction between the two. However, my psychiatrist said she normally prescribes them together as it’s the most effective combination. My GP also said it’s fine together and she’s never had anyone with major issues. Just a few minor side effects that only lasted a few days. Anyways, want to get some advice or some experiences from others on this combination.
Is it fine to take venlafaxine with Vyvanse? I was prescribed both by my psychiatrist?

Hi, Da!
The major issue is not the initial side effects (dizziness, drowsiness, nervousness) which are temporary it's a rare condition called serotonin syndrome which can be serious but is most often very treatable in the early stages. You should be aware of the symptoms but most people will have no problem with it.

I didn't take Vyvanse but a very similar CNS drug with venlafaxine for years with no interaction. The two are commonly prescribed together.
I'd advice following doctor's orders... just be alert.

PS, LOVED my venlafaxine... a real game changer for me!
Thank you so much for the response.
It’s also great to hear someone with a positive experience. Everything I’ve seen online has been so negative, not even just about the combination of meds, but also just about taking venlafaxine in general. I’ve had soo many people tell me to not even start on it.
Thank you for sending through that link for more information, definitely helpful and making me feel a bit better.
When you started on venlafaxine, did you still take your other meds at the same dose? I generally switch between 2 doses of vyvanse depending on how busy my day is. I’m thinking maybe it’ll be better if I stay at the lower dose the first few days of starting venlafaxine. Also what time do you take it? I know everyone has different experiences but just trying to hear as many perspectives as possible.
The problem with the stuff you read on online or hear about is that it's coming from the few people who have had a bad experience. Think of the hundreds of thousands of users who are happily enjoying a functional life.
I'm not saying that it doesn't happen but on average side effects only affect 10% or less of users.
These comments may be interesting. They range from very good to some bad experiences:

I narrowed that down to depression comments only because you had specifically mentioned it.
